Managing Bipolar using exercise - New Goal Melbourne Ironman 2013.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry haven't been on here for a while, mostly because I've been feeling pretty good and have let the trackers go for a little bit.  Anyway have had a bit of hypomania the past few weeks so decided I better get the monitoring up again and thought I'd update here with my latest exercise goal.

This time it's the Melbourne Ironman in March 2013.  3.8km Swim / 180km Bike Ride / 42.2km Marathon to finish. I've decided to give myself a couple of years to train up for it, no rush, having the goal keeps me exercising.  I'll post back every now and then to let you know how I'm going.

Hope you are all keeping well and trying to exercise when you can and this helps you all realize Bipolar people can do anything.

Hugs

Ok, have been busy training the past 6 months, Have managed to lose 17kgs and have never felt as healthy as I am right now. I'm exercising essentially 7 days a week now. I'll be competing in the Melbourne Marathon in a few weeks time, can't wait. I've been battling with a torn calf the past couple of months and have been running on an elliptical trainer up until today where I did my first run for a while.

Helps in so many ways, Helps burn of the energy during hypomania and helps create serotonin when depressed let alone all the social benefits if they join a club or team, to name just a few. My theory is medication as needed, through exercising regularly I've needed less and less medication where now all I take is supplements with Xanax as a backup off switch if I get too anxious. So far this year I've had to take only one Xanax and its December :0) That being said if I was required to take any medication I happily would, just don't need to now, my pushbike is my pill.

Recommend joining a club as exercising alone is really tough, also have something to train for such as a race or some other type of achievement to stay focused. The benefits are immense :0)
