Social Security Disability

Hi All,

Right now, I am on SSD for a health problem but what I wanted to know was, is anyone on SSD for Bipolar Disease?  I'm sure people are unable to work due to mental health issues and esp Bipolar b/c of the ups and downs.  I just wondered how easy it was to get on disability for that reason.  I truly think this can be somewhat of a crippling disease at times just as many other diseases are that qualify for SSD.
Just wondering............

Yes, I am bipolar 1 and on SSD and SSI.  I have been on them for several years even though I would rather work.  But, I have come to realize that is not a possibility for me.

Yes, I'm bipolar 1.  In fact several years ago when seeing a dr. that SSI set up for.  He sent me straight to the hosp.

Yes I recieve it for schizoaffective. Having recovered with an antipsychotic agent in Phase II FDA study I might not meet the grounds under that criteria but I would for advanced tardive dystonia which has made me homebound. As for how bipolar or any other disability affects work there are specific criteria. As well there are work incentives for a person to transfer back to work and keep their benefits at the same time. If you want more information you can go to the Social Security website at ssa.gov.
