MY pdoc tried to diagnose me in the first session. However I believe that by doign so he got a lot of wrong ideas about me. I felt he was focusing on wrong things in my life. And i did not agree at all with his diagnoses. SO I feel that a diagnoses in a few sessions is probably goign to be more accurate. Nurses dont always know whats goign on exactly by the way ;)
i been on meds that didnt work for me..but just found this pdoc..after 3 yrs of looking and all them not taking new paients....what when you go they dont diagnose you right then..thats not what they told me..from the nurse?? tku james
I would also like to interject, that a diagnosis will not be made usually on the first visit. Mine was done until after I spent 4 days in hospital under observation and a 2 hour interview (felt like forever). So don't expect miracles, the doctor needs to get to know you a bit. Of course if you have records from previous a physician that should assist some what. But saying that my last pdoc's info was chucked out.because in the two years I saw him, he never diagnosed me, which is should have. So what I mean is don't expect everything to be "fixed" in one visit, it takes time.
Glad you've got one now though.
Keep in touch,
LCC
It sounds like youve never been to a pdoc before....in which case you will need to give the pdoc a brief background of your life, explain any of your conditions, what medications you have been on before, etc. If you have anything you want to speak about you should write it down, so that you dont forget. On my first visit to the pdoc he spoke so much I almost forgot everything I wanted to ask by the time we were done.
He will listen to your background and decide whether your diagnoses is correct, or decide on a new one, and then he may change your medication to suit. They may also recommend therapy sessions or a change in diet or some other helping hand that you can do.
Dont worry too much about it thought. Just have your questions prepared, and take along your past medical history, and youll be fine. Good luck.
What specific question is your concern? The psychiatrist will schedule you within a standard time frame. Obviously they will want the records of your previous psychiatrist as regards your response to various medications and should obtain them. You may have to complete some release forms. Other than that they will continue you on what medications you were on before and might make changes as they believe are warranted. If you have concerns speak to them about it on the first appointment. If you are happy with your treatment that's fine. But if you want things changed or adjusted let them know as you have a fresh start. Or any other concerns. They will want you to complete forms about what you've been on before and what worked but if you have additional concerns to bring to them let them know.
