I cold came off seroquel by my self I was on 600mg every day. It made me a walking zombie  and well, it was time for me. I got soooooooooooooo sick. I could never be a addict cause comming off this med sucked I could only imagine comming off something more. Its dangerous comming of mood altering meds in the first place thats why ur doc slowly takes you off. Be patient and good luck.

There are a wide range of antipsychotics out there, the newest and the least likely to cause weight gain and sedation being Abilify, Saphris and Fanapt (the antipsychotic agent I take is still in Phase II FDA study but that class of antipsychotics the NMDA receptor modulates is showing very promising results as regards long term and short side effect profile and efficacy and in myself has promoted a full recovery, google "Dr. Javitt, glycine"). There are many FDA approved mood stabilizers as well:

Firstly you need a replacement for the Seroquel as what it is treating will return otherwise. Secondly even in transfering to another medication you will get some withdrawal symptoms as I did in the past when transfering from Seroquel to Risperdal which were fatigue and minor flu like withdrawal symptoms which pased in time and were not a problem. Follow your psychiatrist's titration schedule and ask them about available options.
