jimgreg, have you had a full physical? Do you eat sugar, gluten, fake sugar, caffiene? These will trigger headaches and depression. What's the difference between the two types of depression? Take a pair of tweasers place inside of your body, pull pieces of cartiledge from head to toes. Then let heal, now do it again and again and again and scream on the inside from the pain while "acting normal". This is the difference and is not becuase of situational depression.
I would if I were you, since you can't take the meds...I take seroquel and find help along with lithium that yes is for bp put has a antidepression aspect. Seroquel will soon be given the go ahead by the feds to label as a anti depressant.
I am sorry you are in the pit.

Yes and no. Yes in that for me to have a remmission from the symptoms of schizoaffective disorder (or schizophrenia or as most people here have bipolar) or to have them treated at all you need medication. Whether a particular treatment works as well for a specific person is another story. Any psychiatric disability is biochemical. The mindset that I approach providers with that although quite respectful may be a bit different from how other people do is part of how I advocated to get on new treatments and my outlook on the world. But I couldn't accomplish any of this before recovery when I was psychotic or manic. As for anyone, medication and talk therapy work together but medication is essential for anyone's recovery. Including mine.
Hi there,
I'm just curious, are meds the complete answer to your recovery? The reason I'm asking is because my pdoc seems to think so. I'm stable but still have some issues.

Well some mood stabilizers work better on depression than others. Hopefully you won't have to take an anti-depressent. Depression in bipolar can seem like standard depression but it can spiral into mania during rapid cycling. Or an "agitated mixed state" where someone has the speeded up quality of mania but the down affect (mood) of depression. If you've ever felt "angry at the world" for no reason it may have been that. It happened to me all the time before recovery and will happen off a mood stabilizer. I would hope you would not have to add an anti-depressent but some psychiatrists will give two mood stabilizers one of which will work on depression better than the other. There have been many times in my life I took two mood stabilizers. Including now. You can look up information on medications on the links page and ask about your specific needs but the psychiatrist will probably do an overall assessment first and then see what to prescribe you.
