I decided I was wrongly diagnosed and avoided meds for 6+ years.
Last year my husband told me I needed to see a psychiatrist because he saw his mom's symptoms in me (she is bipolar as well).
He was right, the second doctor confirmed. So did the third (I moved, I didn't question it at this point). Looking back, I definitely see the signs (although they were more sporadic then).
I would definitely say get another opinion. I wish I would've just done it back then so I would've skipped the years I didn't take meds... and looking back, I would've been much better off.
Good luck :)
hello latia7
I think you could ask a second doctor about his/her opinion about your mental health status.
Maybe you are really bipolar but maybe you are right and you are not.
Psychiatry is the medical branch with the most wrong diagnoses, because they can`t see proven results like on blood works.
I have also been dxed with this mood disorder but it seems that I have some other psychiatric stuff too, which gets evaluated soon or in my opinion maybe even an overseen neurological problem.
May I ask why you doubt your diagnosis?
Good health and take care of you!

Go get a second or more opinion/s from elsewhere. Best to see a psychiatrist as they're the specialists; family doctors/GPs really don't usually have any experience dealing with people with bipolar or any mental illness. Make sure you tell them all the truth too about what's happening for you and bring up any issues you feel are important but they missed.
Yes you are entitled to a second opinion, and if your diagnosis is confirmed you are equally as entitled to an explanation of how this conclusion was made.
You could also read up about bipolar and see if you can identify with any of the symptoms.
Tell your doctor why you don't think the diagnosis fits or go to another doctor and tell him the diagnosis and why you don't think it fits.
