Has anyone had problems conceiving after NORAPLANT?

When I was 18 I got pregnant withmy first child. I gave birth to him when I was 19. 3 weeks after giving birth to my son I became pregnant with Twins. I made it to my 4th month of pregnacy in which sadly I miscarried. The doctor recomended I gaev my body some time to rest. and Offered Noraplant. he said It could be removed  when ever I felt at a later date.  Well After 1  year of 80 lb weight gain  and migraine headaches  I went to my doctor and told him of my syptoms. He prescribbed IBprofen for the migraines and sent me on my marry way.  Well for the remainder of the year I went back and forth complainingof the pain in my arm and the headaches and the steady weight gain. Finally 2 yeas and 3 months later they removed the noraplant in a painful way. I felt like they where cutting my arm off.
Any way I finally got the noraplant removed in 1997 I was told it would only take a short time for me to get pregnant they said it would be 6months - 1 year.
DUring this time The weight gain jumped another 40 lbs  and and the migrains have been on and off alot less from before. My last pregnancy ended in Miscariage again.
ANd in 2001 I had to have my right OVARY AND FALLOPIAN tube removed due to cysts.

HAS any one gone through any of this? or something of this sort? Is there a class action suit? If any one has gone through this have they had a baby  healthy following this?

I do know of one person who went on to have 3 more children follwing norplant, but she only had it for a few months before having major problems and getting it removed.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I have only been reading this board for a couple of days now and so badly wanted to ask the same question that you did. THANKS!!!!!
I thought I was the only one as well.
I got the Noraplant when my son was 6 weeks old (that was almost 9 years ago)
I had it removed after 3 years and went on the pill for a short time.
I didn't have any "major" problems with the Noraplant, other than the headaches, heavy periods that came when they wanted to and lasted however long they felt like (sometimes 3 or 4 weeks straight) and I also lost alot of hair every time I showered or brushed it but my hair grew back so fast that it was only noticable in the drain and the brush. I did not gain any weight though.
Anyway, I had the Noraplant removed (very painfully, just as you stated) about 6 years ago and I've been trying to conceive ever since. My husband and I tried for 5 years but nothing. We were divorced and I remarried two months ago and my hubby and I are trying but nothing yet (It's only been two months though)
I was wondering this month however since for the past three weeks I have been very irriatable, sick all the time, crampy day after day (cramps sometimes even go into the tops of my legs and around to my back), gained 10 pounds in a month, flutters in the stomach, more trips to the bathroom, lots of gas and distended stomach as the day progresses, very tired (at least one nap a day), and headaches much more often than usual. I have no idea what is going on with all that but I tested negative and AF came right on time.
Hope I was of some help with the Noraplant issue and maybe someone can tell me if "STRESS" can cause all the symptoms I've been having.
Hugs,
Vikki

I recieved the Noraplant in 1994 after my first child birth. My results was a weakend heart, over 100 lbs. of weight gain, lost of hair, and head and muscle pain. I had the noraplant removed and had pregnancys after but none was normal. but the most shocking thing is I discoverd after they were removed there is still one stem left in my arm!! what should I do?? is ther any kind of class suit??

Also there are a lot of health problems that have been contributed to the Norplant, check the web for this information it has been awhile since I looked all this up

Ladies, this drug company did have a class action lawsuit against them.  The outcome and compensation paled in comparison to the complications of the Norplant that we used.  Like all Medical issues and legal things, unless you were under 18 when you had the original surgery you only have 1 yr from the time you discovered the "problem" to follow up with a lawsuit.

Personally the tubes cracked in my arm and that is why they said I was excluded, however after the Norplant removed (1994 1 yr and 3 months after insertion) I had 3 more miscarriages, and 1 successful pregnancy.  I'm now, finally, on my second successful pregnancy.  I also had my right ovary removed from an extremely large cyst (during this pregnancy), and the weight gain.

Bombay I would first of all file a lawsuit against the doctor who was supposed to fully remove the norplant, that is neglectful medical malpractice.

This is Bombay wife, I was actually 14 yr. old when I first had the implant! I read that if anyone has any heart problems should never recieve the implants? but the OBGYN @ Pitt Memorial was aware of my health problems and they still proceeded with the implants anyway!! after the noraplant my cardiomyopathy has not recoverd back to normal I still take meds today, and my heart has weekend by2%  so does that make me eligible for comp?? and what should I do about the suit against the doctor that did not remove all stems?? Im new to all of this please help me?? it really sound like you really know the BIZZ!! Thank you so,so,much.

What is Noraplant? Is it an IUD?

No A noraplant is nothing like a IUD!! its not on the market anymore, its not safe and if you are not trying to gain weight please dont think about a noraplant implant, that is what it is. Its a 6 stem implant that is implanted under the skin of your upper arm that controls you from becoming pregnant that last up to5 years. it can be removed any time at your will, you may or may not notice problems with it @ first. but soon enough you will !! but hopefully you will take my advice and not get it .or better maybe its really gone off the market for good..... Best luck to you.

There is a statute of limitations with the class action lawsuit, and that is probably what the issue is.  They figure you should've figured it out at 18 or something Bombay.  The lawsuits were so long ago I don't know if there is anything at all that can be done now.  Especially since it wasn't very publicized and not too many people were informed of the situation going on with the law suit.  But what can we do?  Nothing, except visit our doctors and hope our insurance is good enough now I suppose.

I had the noraplant put in after I had two children in one year. I took me forever to find a doctor who would even take it out, I have now suffered two miscarrages in less than a year. I am now wondering  if my complacations with have a normal prenancy are from the noraplant. any information would be greatly appreciated.

In 1993 after having my 2nd child  my doctor suggested the Noraplant contraceptive.  My husband and I believed it was the best choice for us.  I finally had it removed in January of 2000.   I had the implant for 2 years past the removal date, mainly because no doctor in my area ,not even the office that placed it, would even see me for a 2nd visit when they found out about my problems.  My family believed “it was all in my head” when I would complain about the arm pain and heavy bleeding.   For 7 years I suffered blackouts, migraine headaches, violent mood swings, depression, extremely heavy  & pain full periods, ( worse than the bleeding after giving birth) hair loss, and terrible arm pain especially during my period.  I also went from a slim 110 pounds the weight at the time of my surgery to a very frustrating 220+ pounds.
This was the upside, because the implant was in for so long,  my tissues grew around them.  I believe this or the removal of the implants cause nerve damage in my left arm.  I suffer from shooting pains and often lose feeling in my hand. I also tend to just drop things when I am holding them.
Shortly after the implants were removed  I did become pregnant with my 3rd child.  But my troubles were not over,  I suffered bleeding and was hospitalized at least 8 times.  Instead of gaining weight I went from about 217lbs to 116lbs when my daughter was born.  I  don’t have epilepsy, no one in my family does, but suffered seizers while pregnant and was tested for epilepsy 3 times.  My blood pressure was outrages while pregnant also, I was hospitalized 3 times because of it. My baby was born at 28 weeks.  My pregnancy was probably the scariest time of my life, but I made it threw it. My daughter  Terrace is now 8.  My husband and I believe she is a gift from GOD and we decided for my safety not to try to have any more children.
I still suffer  from this procedure  some 15 years later.  I never even heard about a lawsuit or anything until now.   My heart goes out to everyone who has and will post here.  You are all in my prayers.

At the age of 22 I visited Planned Parenthood to have the Norplant inserted in me in 1994, which was 6 mos after my only child was born.  It was not only to prevent another pregnancy at the time but to regulate my periods in which I always had problems since my first menstrual flow at the age of 15.  I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 16 weeks along.  After about 4 years I was advised to have the Norplant removed by a new ob/gyn due to the return of symptoms involving my period.  There were major complications when it was removed because one of the capsules had traveled down my arm.  Thankfully, they were able to locate it & remove it.  Though, I have ugly scars as a result.  My mother, who's career has always been as a teaching chemist at a hospital (now for over 40 years) & who is usually "immune" to "bloody" situations, panicked for the first & only time when she saw how much blood I lost in the procedure.  Following the procedure I continuously bled for over a year. My doctor then diagnosed me with endometriosis solely based on my symptoms.  I'm now in my second marriage & I am trying to have another child for the first time.  Since then I have had a few miscarriages & ovarian cysts.  It's been said by my new ob/gyn (although again not verified) that I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome. I'm starting to wonder if I'm able to conceive another child.  I have not been on birth control pills for over a year & still suffer extremely heavy periods with severe pain but I don't want to give up trying to conceive.  My husband's first wife did not want to have children while he always did.  My doctor doesn't seem to want to take the time to find out if there is anything wrong with me except by encouraging me to keep taking birth control pills to control my symptoms.  I am now in my late 30s & my husband & I feel time is running out.  I really hope I don't have to go to a fertility clinic just to find out if I'm still able to conceive.  Any help would be very much appreciated.
(Also, I was always under the impression that my ex-husband was the reason I had trouble having children during our 12 yr relationship at the time when we were ready to conceive, since he had severely injured one of his testes, thus, our daughter was a "miracle child;" apparently I was wrong since he has now successfully had two more children in the last 3 years, so this has also been a "wake-up call" to me.)
