Will doubling up on emergency contraception and birth control be more effective?

If you've had unprotected sex and have taken an emergency contraceptive pill within 24 hours of unprotected sex, should you begin taking a birth control pill immediately? What if you haven't started taking the pill yet; should you still wait until you get your next period or will taking it asap help prevent a pregnancy?
Thanks!

Emergency contraceptive pills are a very large dose of birth control- prior to starting regular birth control, I would consult your doctor and let them know when you took the emergency contraceptive pill.
