My doctor is concerned about my low WBC, and has referred me to a hematologist.
9/2013:
Neutrophils: 1425 cells/uL
Leukocytes: 3.5k/uL
Because that was low, they requested a re-test, which showed normal range.
10/2013:
Neutrophils: 1816 cells/uL
Leukocytes: 3.8k/uL
This year, I was low again:
10/2014:
Neutrophils: 1047 cells/uL [1500-7800 normal]
Leukocytes: 2.9k/uL [3.8-10.8 normal]
I am young, healthy, athletic, and show no symptoms. I don't get sick often, or have infections.
I notified my doctor that I felt this was benign ethnic neutropenia, because upon inquiry I learned that both parents have a history of this, and my older brother has had it, and we are of middle-eastern descent. One other factor may be that I have a history of low B12, which may be dietary (I don't eat much meat, red or otherwise).
The doctor insisted and said "Your white count seems to be fluctuating. I would actually recommend a hematologist evaluation to get a second opinion and see what their thoughts are."
I thought I'd check the forum to see what opinions or experience others have had.
