What to ask

I am going to go see a endocrinologist for the first time. I what to know what I should expect from this visit and what questions I should ask.

My symptoms are:
Severe Headaches
Eyes feel week and feels like I have tunnel vision
Nauseous
For ten years now I have had Green/Black liquid from both breast.
(I have seen many doctors about the liquid they never knew what it was)

All in all I feel like I am drunk and hungover all the time (and I don't drink ever)

Thanks Heidi

Have you had a good eye exam in the time you have had these symptoms? You need to see a neuro-opthomalogist and get an eye exam that will check your visual fields.

Did you see a breast doctor? Who did not know what the liquid was? What type of doctors did you see?

What types of tests did you have run before you have seen the endocrinologist? You should bring those tests to the endo, and always get a copy of the tests the endo runs as well.

The endo should do a complete physical exam and they are going to press on your breasts to look for the liquid. Then they are going to ask you a lot of questions before and after - about your life and your behavior. You will have a lot of lab work. If the endo is a good endo, your lab work should include the thyroid tests the above post mentioned plus antibodies, and an ultrasound if anything is abnormal, plus a full range of tests that cover androgens, pituitary, adrenals as well as the usual CMP.

You may need an MRI to look at your pituitary. In which case, make sure the imaging place is experienced so you get a good scan.

It will take a while to get answers - get copies of all tests and reports and read up.

I think you should inquire about thyroid problems first to rule those out. make sure you demand a full thyroid workup(tsh, free t3, free t4) most endos dont want to do these. I suppose, you may also get some pituitary hormones tested, as if it turns out your thyroid is functioning properly, you may want to know how those levels are. Most important is to not let him bully you. Maybe take a friend, parent, spouse ith you. i always go with my father
