Why is there a burning sensation on the scalp only at night?

Hello - my wife (age 55) has a burning sensation on her scalp as soon as she lays down at night. this is immediately followed by a headache that keeps her awake most of the night. We have tried a variety of pillows and head elevation with no change in the symptoms. She is terrified that it is a brain tumor (her dad had one), but has recently had two MRIs, neither of which show a tumors (that we or doctors can see); she has been diagnosed with cavernous malformation, but was told it has not changed between MRIs. Additionally, and within the last year, exposure to sun causes a rash-like manifestation on her chest, arms, and legs. She takes a variety of diet supplements and vitamins as well as 'spray tan'. Could these 'products' be causing reactions?
