Symptoms of breast cancer

As previously posted I have been diagnosed with invasive carcinoma and have a tumor that 2.3 centimeters.  When I went to see the surgeon he told me I would need a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy.  When I asked about scheduling he said he was going on vacation and I wouldn't be able to have surgery until the end of October.  I was diagnosed the beginning of September.  I am now going to see another doctor this week that specializes in the breast and it looks like my surgery would be scheduled in a week or so.  Since being diagnosed my breast is tender and the tumor located by the nipple is sore.  Also, my lymph nodes are a little swollen by not painful.  Could this be an indication that the cancer has spread or are these symptoms of breast cancer?

I was also assigned to a general surgeon with a waiting of a month just for the initial appointment for IBC, and then this other doctor was so very nice, he did not even know me, and got me in with the greatest breast surgeon the next day. I will always love that doctor for doing so,

Definitely go see the breast surgeon. If you can have a specialist surgeon in breasts, why even think about going with the general surgeon.

The surgeon I think is the very most important thing of all and you want him not only to really care but know what he is doing to the most possible extent.

I am sure! Amen! Katrin

Although I doubt that the time lapse would make much of a difference in the final outcome I don't think I would be willing to wait 2 months for surgery. I personally delayed surgery for 1 month with a tumor similar in size to yours. I'm not sure I would have opted for lumpectomy although I was given the choice by my surgeon who also said he was not sure that he could "get it all" with only one procedure. I also had some discomfort in the area of the tumor although pain is not usually associated with BC tumors. I think you are wise to be seeing another Specialist; in fact I might have told the other Dr. to enjoy his vacation but I would look elsewhere for my treatmnt. Good luck with the new Dr. ... and with your surgery.    Kindest regards ....
