A breast lump

Hi, I am 23 and back in Jan I found a lump in my right breast, So I went to my doctor to have it checked, So they did an ultrasound and said it was fibroadenoma. But when I had it checked it was the size of a dine now it has changed a lot, now it is a long oval shape and some of it is the size of a qurter, I called my doctor today to see if they can ref me so I can get an mammogram. The place I went to get it checked the first time told me I can't have one because I am to young. My ant had breast cancer, she started but the fibroadennma at the same age I am. But she had the test done to seen if it was in are genes but it is not but that don't mean a thing.I am not sure I should be really freaked out because of it. I don't have much home support to help me though things. So I am hoping it's really nothing.

Fibroadenoma is a benign breast tumor but it can grow to be quite large and often does. The fact that yours has enlarged is really no cause for concern. These tumors can be removed if they become terribly large (much larger than you describe) or cause a great deal of discomfort but they are usually just left alone. Mammograms at your age are not very valuable due to the fact that the breast tissue is quite dense and difficult to "see thru". Ultrasound is the preferred type of imagery for most women in your age group. Keep in mind though even if a Fibroadenoma is removed others may develop. Fibrocystic Breast Condition affects nearly half of all women and at almost any age.  Regards ....
