anyone else with persistent one-sided breast pain?

Hi Everyone.  I worry every, single day about this persistent, daily pain I have in my rt. breast.  It started mid-April, I was scheduled for a screening mamm. the beginning of May, so I figured I needed to wait.  . . thought it might be hormonal (however, my cycle had just ended).  Had the screening mamm. and the report said "normal."  The only findings were "various fibroglandular densities" which I was told by the radiologist is very normal for someone my age (37).  Two weeks later, as the pain persisted, I had an ultrasound.  There were no findings on it.
The radiologist said she's sure it's hormone-related or fibrocystic.  They don't think I need to return.  However, the pain is still there and I'm not sure about waiting!  I tried to get an MRI, but since the tests were normal, the MRI was denied by my insurance.

So. . .here I sit, wondering if I'm doing the right thing.  I'm a very proactive person, but I don't know the next step since there is no lump - only the pain that moves from the outer armpit to the outer-upper breast to the inner upper and inner lower.  So. . .basically everywhere! Also, when the pain is bad it seems to move to my back, behind the rt. shoulder blade.  I've tried Evening Primrose Oil, vitamin E, eliminated ALL sources of caffeine, and none of it seems to have helped.  My doctor is not concerned.

The information I've read about IBC scares me, but I don't have any symptoms (except pain and a very occassional itch - I think I'm probably thinking too hard about the itch, though).  My breasts look totally normal - rt. breast has always been slightly larger than left.

Does anyone have any advice?????  Thank you!

Yes I started getting this pain when I was nursing and it wasn't mastitis.. I had huge lumps and pain in my breasts but my doctors didn't know what to tell me until after I was done nursing. After I stopped nursing the pain just got worse and my breasts were lumpy and swollen.. I noticed the worse pain and soreness on the sides in the lymph node areas.. My doctor did a mammogram and ultrasound and although the doctors seemed baffled by the huge mass in my left breast they didn't know what else to call it so they said it must be fibrosistic disease.. I knew it was more than that.. So after continuous research and tests I found that I had fungus/candida in my breasts and mercury that was causing all my problems.. I got on potassium iodide and some antifungal's immediately.. It can take a good six months or more to remove the fungus from the breasts. If you can't find a cause for your pain then you need to see an alternative doctor to check for yeast or mercury toxicity.. I had to have 15 amalgam fillings removed and replaced because I had leakage of mercury into my bloodstream.. Good luck girls, I feel for you.. If you do have a fungus problem in your breasts, be sure to treat it right away because it could essentially turn into cancer...

Wow I thought I was the only one having this issue.  I have been having pain for so long.  Now it seems tho the past few weeks it has been going into my armpit area and it seems swollen or thicker and I don't feel any lumps or masses but they may be hidden.  I have had two mammos and an ultrasound in December of 08 and theys said it was fibrosystic change. I even got a second opinon from an oncologist who deals with Inflammatory breat cancer but the pain is worse and the swelling is new. I take motrin 800 they don't work i tred the primrose oil etc don't work. I do carry everything on my left side  my purse my 25 pound daughter my left arm is alot stronger then my right even tho i am right handed. i am soo scared it is cancer since thickening is a sign. I was hoping it could be a nerve issue since the pain is mainly in my arm pit area. It burns like I have a rash or something but there is nothing there? except I do notice that when I put my arm down to my side it feels thicker does that sound weird or what? I have another appt with the breast health center tomorrow and am keeping my fingers crossed. I am a single mother or two small children.  yikes..

Hi all,
Just wanted to update you on findings relating to right-sided breast pain.  Had an ultrasound today at Nottingham breast clinic, City Hospital and was told the tissue is healthy.  Was told breast  pain is very common, rarely indicates cancer and there's not much can be done for it apart from take painkillers. (I've been prescribed some which do ease the discomfort but give chronic diarrhoa...I'd rather have the breast discomfort!)  Ist nurse I saw did seem a bit peeved that I'd been referred there with no obvious lump, which annoyed me a bit as i know a colleague who had breast pain like me and no obvious lump and was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer.  So ladies, make no apologies for getting yourself checked.  There's an exception to every rule and it's better to be safe than sorry and at the same time put your mind at rest.  All the best!

I'm 40 and have been having same sort of pain as some of you have mentioned - right side breast, top and side into armpit, not obvious lumps but does feel different to left breast - harder in the places where it's painful.  Saw a doc 6 months ago who put it down to torn intercostal muscle (had burning sensation like squeezing a boil).  that went away after a month but last couple of months I've had almost constant ache in right breast, along with aches in shoulders, back and hips, especially in the morning on waking.  Saw a different doc this week who's sent me for bloods and arranged visit to breast clinic.  says he doesn't think it's sinister.  maybe he just read the look on my face when he referred me for a mammogram!  my concern is that if the breast pain and other joint pains are related i may be acting too late.  will soon find out anyway.  It has cheered me a little though to hear of similar breast symptoms that have turned out not to be cancerous.:)

Kudos to the mention of chocolate, we tend to forget the foods that have caffeine in it.
And we do tend to eat the comforting foods when we are under this kind of stress.

I have noticed that with Fibro cyctic breast disease, choco makes me feel better emotionally, however, the pain, night sweats, and bloating are not worth it the next day.

I am 47, so it bothers me differently than earlier in life.  Take care, and be strong, go with your gut feelings, you know when you feel right and like yourself. not your doctors.

I'm not saying girls you should worry, but you need to do whats going to make you feel comfortable. If you feel like they didn't do a good enough job and you think there is something truly wrong, go with your instinct. You are lucky to be actually seeing a surgeon about it, Take this opportunity to get it resolved. It may feel better now, but in a month if it comes back you are going to regret it if you don't go.
Don't wait on a Doctor to tell you to worry...If you don't persist in being seen to, they won't bother. Trust me.

THE PAIN IS HORMONAL BUT CAN STAY WITH YOU EVERY DAY NOT JUST MID CYCLE OR WHILE ON YOUR PERIOD. DO YOU BREAST GET SORE PRIOR TO  YOUR CYCLE AS WELL? BET THEY DO. YOU HAVE HAD THE PROPER TESTS YOU NEED DON'T WORRY UNTIL A DR. TELLS YOU TO WORRY. NOT EVERY WOMAN GETS BREAST CANCER. IT IS AN UNFORTUNATE THING BUT NOT ALL GET IT. YOUR FINE. MY PAIN STARTED YEARS AGO AROUND YOUR AGE OR MAYBE BEFORE. TWO OF MY SISTERS HAVE THE SAME THING. RELAX.
I HOPE I HELPED PUT YOU AT EASE. YOU DO NOT HAVE A DISEASE YOU HAVE DIS-EASE, GET IT?

i am 39 yeas old and i am experiencing very similar pain. rt. breast, felt like i was nursing. so heavy and very painful. my husband couldn't even hug me normally. had mammo-negative a few new fibrocystic changes, ultrasound-very small cluster of cysts. i was terrified, because this breast felt so, so different from the other. felt like i was walking around and everyone could tell i had one breast clearly bigger than the other. saw one of the midwives, before my imaging tests and did start taking the primrose oil. only took two pills a day, probably should have taken more-some with each meal. the primrose i had also had vit. E in it. so i took that for 3 weeks and still no relief. the pain was going on 2 months then. so after my mammo and U.S. i saw a new midwife and she told me to see a surgeon and he would probably do a biopsy. i feel so silly because now just yesterday(after i saw her), last night i noticed that the breast had become much lighter, felt more like the other(did just get my period). now i don't know if i should still see the surgeon, or just keep taking the primrose and chalk it up to it took 3 periods for it to dissappear. think i may go just to put my mind at ease. but don't want them to think i am crazy either. just don't understand. the changes with age are clearly new to me. still have a little pain but the heaviness and fullness are just gone. ?
