You are welcome,
It’s a good thing that you have had regular Mammograms tests. It’s true that Digital breast Tomosynthesis test not only has greater clarity and accuracy than the traditional Mammogram but also has the ability to detect breast cancer at a very early stage. As I mentioned before this could be something innocuous that just needs to be further investigated, but if (God forbid) it turns out to be something serious, remember it’s at a “very early stage” and highly curable. None of the tests, including a 3D mammogram can distinguish with certainty if an abnormality is malignant or not. Only a biopsy (if necessary in your case) can tell for sure what’s going on.
I hope that the Radiologist will provide more information on your upcoming test and reveal something other than breast cancer.
I am sending positive thoughts your way and good luck!
P.S. Please do update us by using this same thread. Thank you.
Hi,
You can be called back for something that could be totally normal or a benign finding; so don’t panic because it’s not at all unusual to be called back for additional investigation if the Radiologist noticed something that needs to be clarified.
A suspicious finding may be just dense breast tissue, a cyst, or even a benign tumor, like a Fibroadenoma. Please note that if this is your first mammogram, the Radiologist may want to look at an area more closely simply because there is no previous mammogram to compare it with. The doctor may request procedures such as magnification or Ultrasound. Even if you need a breast biopsy, it still doesn’t mean you have cancer, since most biopsy results in benign findings.
Best wishes and we hope that all goes well for you!
