I was bored one day and I did one of those self examination things on my breasts. I think I felt a lump in my right breast, but I am not sure if it's a sign of breast cancer or not. I am only 15 years old, and I feel like I am too young to have breast cancer, or any cancer. I have had this lump for a couple of days now, and it hasn't gone away. Although it hasn't gotten worse either. I am a little scared, but at the same time I am in denial. Should I do anything about this, or is it probably nothing?
If you think that you felt a lump while doing BSE (self breast exam),I think that you should see your doctor for a clinical breast exam to make sure if it's a lump or not.
Also I would like to suggest to you, that it's important for young women to be aware of the need for breast self-examination once a month, one week after the start of your menstruation so that any problems can be detected.
Cysts are the most common reason for breast lumps in young women.Cysts are rarely malignant(cancerous) and may be caused by a blockage of breast glands.Fibroadenomas are solid, smooth, firm, benign (not cancerous) lumps that are most commonly found in women in their teens and early twenties. They are the second most common benign lumps that occur in women of any age.
Because you are so young, lumpiness in the breasts is normal, but may make actual lumps harder to distinguish. That's why it is important that young women with lumpy breasts perform regular breast self-examinations and have regular physical examinations. Knowing the normal shape and feel of your own breasts, you will be able to detect any unusual changes.
I don't think that the lump you have has anything to do with breast cancer, but for peace of mind and reassurance, please talk to your mom about it so that she make an appointment with your family Dr.and have this lump evaluated.
Take care and best wishes.... :)
