what is a FISH test? I a negative result good? Why?

Here is more than you ever wanted to know .....
"Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization"(FISH) is a test to determine which women with HER2/neu breast cancer would benefit from the drug Herceptin.

A + result means there is an excessive amount of the HER2/neu cancer gene and these tumors tend to be more aggressive.

A - result means that normal amounts of the gene
are present.

Negative is a GOOD THING !
