Excess breast tissues

Hi,

I saw a specialist last year when I was pregnant because my armpits were swollen, lumpy and was in alot of pain.My mum had breast cancer and she also had the same symptoms before they realised that she had breast cancer. The right side is bigger than the left. So my GP booked an appointment to see a specialist which he dis and concluded that it was excess breast tissues and that it will go away after birth or in a few months. I then did nothing about this until I had my baby. The swelling is still there, I am still in pain and it is worse because I am breast feeding. So I went back to my GP who booked another appointment for a scan to see a specialist. I saw a lady who checked me out and she concluded that it felt like  a cyst and not excess breast tissue. So she booked a scan for me with the same specialist who saw me last year to see if this was the case. When I went to see him, he was Very rude to me and DENIED me a scan. He told me ' I already told you that this is excess breast tissues and their is nothing we can do about it, It is a part of you now.'  So I explained to him that the other doctor felels like it is a cyst and he told me he is the specialist and DON'T CARE what other people say. We can remove it but that will be considered as a cosmetic surgery. I was so shocked with his responce and called the hospital to complain about this. I have gone back to my GP and they have sent me to a different hospital because I completely refuse to go back there as I will still be sent to the same rude and arrogant specialist.
I am yet to get a date for  a scan in this other hospital. My questions though is can this be removed underthe NHS because I am in a lot of pain and I am breast feeding. The Dr. I saw who thought it was a cyst said that if it is they can remove it. What if it's excess breast tissues can they also still remove them under NHS? I am scared that even if it's excess breast tissues, having cancer in the family , they might develop to cancer cells..which was the case with my mum.

I see no reason why either issue couldn't be taken care of by surgical removal. Cysts are cysts and are benign ... breast tissue is just that and I don't see either one developing into breast cancer. There is always a chance of a woman developing breast cancer but I don't think it would be connected to either of the issues you have mentioned. Family history does increase one's risk of breast cancer but family history only accounts for a few percent of all cases diagnosed.  Regards ....
