Male breast cancer

I was just diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma on September 2. The surgeon that did the biopsy said mastectomy is almost always the treatment for males, especially in my case since the tumor is right next to the nipple and partially under it. But he did say the pectoral muscle shouldn't be affected. Does this jive with what you all know?

Also, I don't fit the MBC profile. I'm not overweight, I exercise regularly, whole foods (fruit, vegetables and nuts) are my preferred foods and have been for a long time (I don't eat meat), and I don't smoke or drink. I have been taking levothyroxine for about ten years for hypothyroidism though and I found one study that possibly links that drug to BC. My docs insist it has nothing to do with levothyroxine. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks for any input.
