Thank you for the information. This was very helpful to me. All of this can be very confusing and it's great when you can communicate with someone who has been through the same thing.
I'm glad you had such positive results and I think your right it's better to have it done to be sure!!!
Thanks again
I recently went through the same thing as you. My stereotactic pathology results said: ""Micropapillary/flat atypical ductal hyperplasia, focal atypical lobular hyperplasia, and columnar cell alteration. Background fibrocystic changes. Calcifications in association with atypical and benign ducts. No evidence of in situ or invasive carcinoma."
My surgeon recommended the surgical exisional biopsy to completely remove the entire suspicious area, just because of this finding of atypical cells. I had this on October 24, and it all went really well. It was a surgical procedure, but I did not have to be totally put out, just the conscious sedation. And I had no complications, at all from the procedure.
I've since received the pathology report from the surgical biopsy and no cancer was found. Just a few more atypical cells that were all removed. I was very happy to hear that.
My surgeon had initially told me that in biopsy results with atypical cells, 10-15% of the time there is cancer present. That's pretty low chance, but I'm glad that I had it done.
Now, I can just put it all behind me, and move on!
No, at this point, I don't have a diagnosis of cancer. I believe that is why the resection is recommended, but I am not 100% positive. I am hoping that this will be a final determination of whether or not I have cancer. It is agonizing waiting for a definite finding.
No, the biopsy was not really painful, but I was a nervous wreck because even though I read a lot about it I did not know what to expect. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I had a good Radiologist who took 20 minutes to go over everything with me before he started the procedure. Good luck to you.
I have the same thing, a cluster of microcalcifications. In your results, does any of that mean that it is indeed cancer? Is the resection recommended to get a better tissue sample? I actually don't have any feedback for you as I have not had my biopsy yet. Was your biopsy painful?
Thank you and God Bless you
