Mammogram recall first time

I'm 49 and have been getting mammograms yearly. I have heterogeneous dense Breast (51%-75% fibroglandular tissue. This time I was called the next day that I need to come back in for more veiws. My Dr said they saw something on this one that wasn't there last year. I called and got my results faxed to me. They are below.

An area of focal asymmetry is present at middle depth and is seen in only the oblique projection superiorly.
I'm pretty scared about what this could be. I'm also worried that something was missed on my last mammogram. I know if it shows on the new veiws that they have me already scheduled for other testing.

There's no breast cancer in my family that I know of. But on my dads side there's a lot of other cancers. I guess I'm thinking the worst but trying to hope for the best.

What or where would middle depth be? I can't feel anything different. Could this be cancer with out me feeling a lump? Any answers would be appreciated.

Congratulations! I am so happy to hear your GOOD news !
Because you have dense breasts it's an excellent idea to have asked your Doctor for an Ultrasound test following your yearly Mammograms. Good for you!
Have a nice relaxing summer free of worries :)

I got great news. The extra veiws and breast ultrasound didn't show anything wrong. They are thinking it was just folded over breast tissue. What a relief, I asking my doctor to add an ultrasound each year with the mammogram since I have very dense breast and have read things can be missed. I feel like a weight has been lifted. Prayers to all and thanks again for all your kind words.

You are more than welcome!
I know how stressful it is waiting to know what is going on .We all seem to think the worst but believe me, more often than not, things turn out to be just fine.
We will certainly appreciate if you update us ( using this same thread please) when you'll have the additional test.

P.S You will know the results the same day you'll have the diagnostic Mammogram.
Keeping fingers crossed for you and wishing you good luck!

Thanks MHV and Zouzi for your quick responses. I really fell apart when I got this call. I'm totally terrified of finding out what it is. But terrified not to know what it is also if that makes sense. One minute I'm thinking it will be nothing just a false alarm and next thinking its cancer. I feel like I'm on a roller coaster. I go this Tuesday morning for the extra testing. I haven't slept very well can't get this off my mind. I'll come back and post what is found. I'm hoping they tell me Tuesday.

Hi,
If a mammogram finds that there is an asymmetric density, this usually means that an area of the breast is obscured and appears as a shadow. In this case, a diagnostic mammogram is needed to focus on the area so a diagnosis can be made. Very often the density will disappears upon compression indicating that it could have simply been tissue that folded over on itself. If the density remains, then further investigation will be recommended. This density could very well be a cyst or a fibroadenoma, both benign in nature. Since your breasts are undoubtedly dense it makes it hard for radiologists to clearly identify the abnormality. Although it is impossible to predict in advance what this density may represents, many will turn out to be benign.
Hoping that there is nothing serious to worry about.
All the best!
