Thank you for your comments they are very much appreciated. Im a 24y mother of 3 and glad to hear that the recovery time isn't to long. I did have a biopsy done earlier in the year to confirm fibroadenoma and was told it would go in 2/3 years, I was not told much about what it was or why it was there. I spook to my F.P.C doctor and she told me that I was unable to take any female contreceptive or use any hormonal herbal or replacement tablets ever again, as she thought that my contreceptive pill was the reason I developed these fibroadenomas. Following that I researched fibroadenomas on the internet, I now understand what they are and some of the causes for them. Any information I have found says nothing of the removal of, if the symptons fade after surgery, or if I might develope more in the future. Mine cause's me alot of discomfort, pressure ect. I requested to see the surgoen again because I was unable to perform daily tasks such hug/lift my 3yr old, run (bleeding nipple), exercise in general, shake head to toe, have the odd twitch when I shake which has resulted in some painful injures, ect. I was wondering if I could ask you some more question on this issue, if your ok with it. I haven't been told much by my surgeon he bolted off before I had chance to ask anything. Thank you again.

I had to have this done at the age of 18 and it was bad at all. I had a recovery time that was about two weeks because my incision broke apart but it wasn't bad at all. I went back to work in a few days. I wish u the best of luck with everything. The surgeon will request a biopsy especially if cancer runs in your family. That is the reason I had to have it done.
Fibroadenomas are benign lumps most often found in the breast tissue of young women.
However, I had one removed at the age of 55, so they can occur at any age. They're made up of glandular and connective tissue tissue and can sometimes cause pain when they become large. Sometimes no treatment is needed at all except watching them carefully. Most of the time the doctor can tell just by feel that they're benign and they'll be left alone. However, if there's any doubt, and any chance they might be a malignant tumor, they're biopsied by either by fine needle, core needle or excisional biopsy. I'm sure there's a good reason your doctor is recommending removal.
Everyone is different, but my surgery was relatively easy, recovery was pretty quick and my scar is small and faint. I even went to a dance class the night after. Make sure you ask your surgeon all the questions you may have related to the procedure, recovery and the diagnosis.
I hope this is helpful to you and I wish you all the best with your surgery and recovery,
nc
