Not in his defense but perhaps her previous Oncologist knows her case, condition, etc. better than Dr.s who have become involved only recently. Or just that he thinks he does and I don't mean that to be facetious. I hope she does well .... whatever is decided.
I agree on the second opinion. We were able to reach both the surgeon and the oncologist and both agree that if she was younger and/or had a more aggressive form of breast cancer they may CONSIDER radiating the left node area but they would not recommend it. I'm just disappointed in the radiation oncologist with whom she has had long standing relationship and really trusted to have her best interests at heart. Thanks for your input
Radiation seems appropriate but I would get a second opinion if you have doubts. As to the node dissection and your concerns about the blood draws and B/P --- I have adhered to all the precautions even though I did develop some lymphedema post-op but recently had hand surgery on the operative side .... many injections, the surgery itself and a tourniquet on for the duration (at a higher pressure than with a B/P check) with no problems. Have you discussed the recommendation with your mother's Oncologist ?? If not then you should and pull no punches ... be very frank about your concerns. i doubt he would recommend any treatment other than to benefit your mother's health though. We are always entitled to a second opinoin if there are doubts.
