pain to the side and under breast

i have been having mammograms and ultrasounds for the last 7 years (i'm 37) because i have lots of lumps. they just tell me it's nothing to worry about and tell me to come back in 6 months, which i do. i recently went to the doctor because i was experiencing moderate to severe pain / burining on the outer side and under my left breast. she found a large lump and sent me for another mammogram and an US (however, the US tech didn't go anywhere near the area that was hurting). the results showed complex cysts in both breasts and they recommended a follow up US in 4 months. my doctor wanted me to have a consultation with a surgeon to make sure there wasn't something else going on since i have been having the pain for over 6 weeks. i went to see the surgeon today and she said my lymph nodes are swollen - but not anywhere near my armpit. she said she thinks it's possible that a lymph node may be pressing on my thoracic nerve and that is what is causing the pain. she is sending me to have a CT done on monday. i don't have any family history of breast cancer, but my mom died of lung cancer 3 years ago - they only found it because the tumor was pressing on a nerve and it was painful. i am scared and nervous that with all of the "cysts" they have found in the last 7 years that this may be something bad. has anyone else experienced chronic pain and or burning for an extended period of time combinded with multiple cysts? if so, what did it turn out to be? should i ask for a biopsy of the cysts or the nodes? sorry to be so long winded, but any comments are appreciated :)

thanks for sharing your experience. i tried to ignore it hoping it would just go away. i almost felt like i was overracting - but it hurts and i just want someone to figure out what it is so i won't be in pain anymore. i had the ct scan done yesterday and am hopeful that i will hear something from my doc in the next day or two. i find it almost troublesome that none of the doctors i have seen so far have mentioned a biopsy. i guess that could be a good thing if i am trying to think positively. but i almost wish they would to give me peace of mind. i hate the waiting game. thanks again.

I also had pain and soreness in the underside of my left breast for a number of months. My GYN sent me for a mammo and sonogram which they said were negative but becasue she was having the test results sent to a particular breast surgeon, they decided to do a magnification mammo. Bottom-line: I had a partial masectomy two weeks ago and then additional tissue removal to go for clean margins and a breast reduction on the other side last Friday. I have Grade 3 DCIS and atypical hyperplasia.

Cysts of any type can cause considerable discomfort and this is usually the case with most women. Complex cysts are often biopsied due to the fact that they contain both liquid and solid material. I'm sure the CT scan that you are having on Monday will shed some light on your situation. If not, I would advise you to seek another opinion either from a Breast Specialist or Breast Surgeon. Please let us know what you find out when you have your CT scan.  Regards .....
