A related discussion,
Pleomorphic calcification was started.
Thank you for your response. I am going to meet with the breast surgeon on Friday.
Thank you SO much for your encouraging words! I'll try not to worry!
I was told 2 years ago by a radiologist that my pleomorphic calcifications were also very worrisome. I had a biopsy and they were benign. A high percentage of calcifications that are suspicious enough to biopsy are benign. But, the fact that some are cancerous still means you need to have that biopsy. If there is no lump involved, if it is cancer, it is most likely a very early cancer or precancer that is very treatable.
The most common patterns seen in mammography are masses and calcifications. Microcalcifications may be suggestive of cancer, but doctors need to verify that suspicion by doing a biopsy of the area in question. Only then can a definite diagnosis of cancer be made. I think your doctor offered you sound advise when he told you to have the biopsy done as soon as possible
