Waiting for period before MRI

Hello wondering if anyone has any ideas on this. I have confirmed grade 2 invaasive ductal carcinoma er/pr positive.
I am now awaiting my period to start before we will schedule my MRI for sizing of tumor and staging information. The thing with this is that I am never regular with my periods I can go from every 31 days ( which is rare) to every 7 months. I have just had my period on the 31st of July and am hopeul that I will just start on the 31st of August, but I doubt this will happen not only because of my irregularity but the stress as well. If I do not start by the 7th of Sept. I am to call into the office to let them know and we will see what other options we may have. The doctor is suppost to be looking into what else we can do if this is the case. Any ideas as to another way to get this imaging/sizing of the tumor done if I do not start my period? What happens if they just do the MRI without my period?
I usually take a natural heb tonic called  Female by Dr. Schultze which helps to regulate my hormones and usually helps make me more regular if I take it regularly. I was told I shouldn't take anything that may affect/ raise my estrogen levels. I am thinking that this may , but I have been taking it for years and figure that a week or two more will not make things any worst then they already are, and if the tonic does help me start then it may out weight the risks anyways. I need my period! I need this staging information for my sanity among other reasons. My tumor is easily palpable and I want to estimate it at about 3 inches tall by 2 inches wide. Assuming that I am not feeling any attached normal tissue. This is the dimensions of the extremely hard mass. I can almost feel all the way around it. It doesn't seem deep enough to be into the chest wall yet, but again there is a section I am not able to feel. The glory of worry :P
I will stop taking this either as soon as I start or on the 7th.  Do you think this tonic would really be harmful? I have been taking it right along anyways until the diagnosis. Any imput would be greatly appreciated. Again I know that noone can give me 100% definative answers but your knowledge and thoughts really do help me. Thank you,

I just thought I would post that I started my period today. WOOT! days earlier then I ever thought it would happen as I am very irregular. MRI is now scheduled as well as Oncologist apt. and another with the surgeon. They mentioned maybe Chemo before surgery, but we are talk about this at the appointment I guess. Things are starting to roll now.

I appreciate each and every one of your thoughts on this. This is a tough call for me. I have been taking this tonic for awhile now so I figured it wouldn't hurt to take a few more days.
The explanation that was given to me about waiting for the MRI until just on or after day 7 of my period was they were afraid that because of the palpable size of this that my breast are going to be so much denser nearing my period that they may in fact miss something crucial as far as size, margins and tentacles of the cancer tumor so I see the reason for waiting, but its driving me crazy all the "what stage am I at?" thinking.  I figure whats a couple more days of taking my tonic with a decent chance of it helping me start vs the whole "unknown thing". I know how important this is to make sure every piece of information  that is needed to ensure the best plan of treatment is. I want to demand an MRI now but I know I should wait probobly the best thing for me.
My Drr. has prescribed me some anxiety meds which I have not taken any yet because I have never taken anything like them before. I do not like to take any kinds of pills unless I "have" to so i keep telling myself no don't take them just wait. I do not even like to take tylenol.
Oh well guess I will wait for a few more days and see what happens. Thank you all I am still thinking on the tonic thing. Someday....maybe I will have the answer i need until then more waiting ! HA

I would be very concerned about anyone with a ER+/PR+ tumor using Dr. Schulze's Female Formula Tonic, since his Web site states that its  purpose is to " regulate and balance female hormones," and describes it as containing "powerful herbs thought to affect the affect the pituitary and hypothalmus in the brain, which both control the manufacture and release of hormones from the ovaries,"  and "phytosterols, chemical precursors to hormones."

I would think the last thing one would want to do with this type of tumor is "feed it" with hormones, precursors to hormones , or plant-based "bio-identical hormones," about which The American College of Obstetriciams and Surgeons issued a very strong caution in  2005.

As the previous posters both suggested, it might be best ask your doctor if you can go ahead with the MRI without regard to your menses.  Then perhaps you will be able to proceed with the treatment of your breast cancer without significant delay.

Best wishes...

I wouldn't take the tonic if you were advised not to take anything to alter your hormone levels. I'm sure if you haven't started your menses by the date you are to call the Dr. they will go ahead with the MRI ... I see no reason not to as the results shouldn't be any different.  Regards ....

Hi,

I am so sorry that you are going through what you are going through.  I don't know much about the tonic.  But with respect to the MRI, they wanted me to wait for my period as well, but because I too was so stressed out, they slated me in and did it regardless as soon as possible.   They didn't seem to be concerned about the end results being any different, but were concerned as I was an absolute basket case and that was probably hindering on my health as well.

They may just do the same for you as well if you ask them to.

Take care and god bless.
