I agree with RTRM321. My MRI found a 10 cm mass. I have an MRI every year. I elected to remove both breasts and I had them reconstructed via DIEP perforator flaps. But if I still had copious amounts of breast tissue I'd biopsy it again in a New York minute if there were reason! My cancer couldn't be seen and couldn't be felt. An ultrasound found 1.5cm with tentacles which was biopsied and found to be cancerous. They pushed for a lumpectomy and I pushed for mastectomy. MRI found 10 cm which made it not only a mastectomy but also half of my chest wall too. Don't be afraid of a biopsy. It may save your life.
Please don't think of yourself as a human pincushion!! These doctors are only trying to do what is best for you. Another attempt at a stereotactic biopsy could be successful, but if not, an excisional biopsy is your next option. If you don't want to be a "pin cushion", perhaps your surgeon will agree to just going straight to an excisional biopsy, but that means more tissue loss for you.
It can be tiring with procedures and biopsies, but in all reality, it is your life and your decision. Stereotactic biopsy=minimal tissue extraction. Excisional biopsy=major tissue extraction.
My breast MRI lead to my stereotactic biopsy (my 6th left breast needle biopsy). Diagnosis was Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. I totally believe in MRI's. If it weren't for my MRI, I would be living with breast cancer now.........awaiting my next annual mammogram......
I just go with the flow.......you have to make your own choice.
Regards......
You think having a biopsy makes you a human pin cushion? NOT.
Please don't scare people.
Hi again,
The radiologist believes that further investigation of two areas of microcalcs is necessary, either by attempting stereotactic biopsy again, or if that cannot be done, by excision biopsy, I would think.
I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but a BI-RADS 4 requires biopsy, which as we have been telling you, is the only way to know for certain, what is going on.
Best wishes...
p.s. It would be helpful if you would keep all of your related posts in the same thread. That way all the relevant info is available in one place for those following your situation, which allows us to provide better answers. Thanks!
