Chemo Bug

Hi, my sister has been having chemo for breast cancer, I was wondering if anyone has heard of the chemo bug they say it is very rare only been 4 cases in the world, she will be 5th. If anyone has any info on this bug at all we would like some info. She is in ICU on a ventilator, her lungs have collapsed, all her levels are out of wack, blood pressure high, sugar and the list goes on. Only 2 people have survived this bug we have been told by the hospital. She is only 47 in January she was fine then found out she had breast cancer and she is now fighting for you life in ICU.

Hi there.

I'm sorry to hear what happened.  Complications like these from chemotherapy may indeed be very rare and may be iatrogenic.  Different chemotherapy drugs have their own toxicity profile and unique side effects that sets them aside from the other.  Rare side effects would include progressive debilitating neuropathies, acute respiratory distress syndrome, progressive encephalomyelitis, etc.  I hope that your sister can hurdle this obstacle and be pulled out of the condition.  I suggest that you keep in close contact with all her doctors.  Regards and God bless.
