waiting for biopsy results. bi-rad 4?

Hi...  I'm 39 and have a benign fibroadenoma on the left. (from 2003). On the right, a cyst under the areola. Changes to that areola in terms of shape and color. (Not biopsied, just monitoring). And new small fibro complex change with dense tissue. Bi-rad 4. I just had the core biopsy on wednesday. Which was actually very bad. I believe it was a diff method than the last one. Felt like a hole puncher.. due to autonomic dysfunction, I passed out and had convulsions... was a very bad day overall. Took 8 hours to recover, which is adding to my stress. I am very bruised as well. Much worse than last time, when I think they used something like a little gun, or a machine that made a repetative noise. Anyhow, I was hoping to have results by today, but will have to wait until next week. So, this will be a tough weekend. But does anyone have any idea about any of this? Would they use a diff. method of core biopsy if they are more suspicious? Am I right in thinking my chances are greater of getting BC with complex changes and density? I am pretty panicked. And if there is a cyst under the areola, why wouldn't they biopsy that one? Any input would be great!!! Thanks so very much!! Really, I am just worried the about the results. And also about the one under the areola that was never tested.... Thanks! -Tia

Thanks for your input! I'm just haunted by the report... 'complex change, dense tissue, bi rad4'... I'm sure I am worrying for nothing, and no one can tell me here what the results will be, but I'm just scared. In fact, it doesn't even sound so bad... it's just suspicious so they are making sure. Even knowing this doesn't calm me!! Too much pressure in general.. and the stress is not helping. I think I am more worried because I have some skin color changes on the areola itself, and the shape has changed. Like they are not in sync anymore, if that makes sense. Could all be perfectly normal stuff. Oh well... will also meet breast surgeon in a couple weeks to go over all these fears. Best of luck to you men and women out there who have been diagnosed. Thanks for listening :)

Usually results are available in 4 to 7 days after the procedure. There may be different methods of biopsy with different institutions and also equipment does change from time to time.  Core biopsies are done with a large bore needle type punch and there can be considerable bruising depending on how many samples are taken. If the area behind the areola has been determined to be a cyst there would be no need for biopsy.  Regards .....
