Papillary thyroid carcinoma

Hello, Actually my sister has papillary thyroid carcinoma bethesda 6 as diagnosed by the medical professionals. The right side of her neck was swollen but there was no pain but we still decided to visit a doctor. After the fnac test this disease was diagnosed and we are really worried as they say that a total thyroidectomy will be required. There is a cancerous tumor of 3.2 cm in the right side of her thyroid gland and few colloid cyst on the right side. We are going for a second opinion now so please tell me is it really necessary to remove the entire thyroid gland? She is just 16 years old.
