Which treatment should we go for?

My father has been diagnosed with kidney cancer. Thankfully, it was detected early and hasn't grown much. We consulted two types of surgeons, both with a different way of removing the tumor. First method is the traditional open surgery in which there will be a lot of blood loss and the aftermath won't be pretty. Second is a robotic method which doesn't involve much blood loss and is comparatively safe. The thing about open surgery is that the surgeon will be able to make on the spot decisions after removing the tumor and examining the kidney for the roots(of the cancer) and whether to remove that part too. Does this happen in the robotic procedure too?

Thanks.
