Why HCG Levels?

My sister was just diagnosed with cancer.  They think it may be a rare cancer known as liomyosarcoma.  Biopsies were done yesterday and further testing is scheduled.  She has mets to lung, adrenal glands, liver, and bone.  They are checking HCG levels.  Why???  Isn't this a pregnancy indicator?    Thanks for your help.  God Bless.

I had cervical cancer (stage 6) 20 years ago and have never had any recurrences of it, do yo think HCG would be safe for me to take for weight loss purposes?

Recently I had bloodwork done in an emerg room. I already know I have Cervical cancer.  The doctor wanted to know if I could be pregnant? LOL, no I said then I asked why? He said because my HCG levels were high. = 9!! Should be under 5 if NOT pregnant.
I went home and looked it up on the internet. It is sometimes used as a cancer marker. This particular one is used in marking or NOTING ovarian cancer. I have cervical cancer though I thought? So mystery to me!!

Best of Luck, DON'T RUSH into ANYTHING!!! Fine out what they prepose to do, then GO HOME and research it!!!

Elizabeth
