Statistically, over 30% of the female population has some form of breast density.
So, it's a very common condition; and it's usually felt as a sort of lumpiness within the breasts. It is also a condition that can make the interpreting of mammograms very difficult. Because the density makes it hard to see what's going on within the breasts, doctors and technicians are all the more vigilant when viewing dense breast imagery. So, don't assume that you have something bad... it's just that your breast tissue is hard to see. And, it's my guess that the 2 diagnostic tests that you mentioned (the mammogram and the ultrasound) were ordered for the purpose of making a clearer and more informed assessment of your breast health. I think that your doctor ordering both exams is a an intelligent and responsible approach.

The term modular speaks to the manner or extent in which the density shows itself. Just so you know, according to my doctor, heredity is the likely reason for having dense breast tissue. As you've probably already guessed, I also have dense breast tissue. I first learned of it when I had my first mammogram, at age 40. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it... just make sure that you have those annual mammograms and perform regular self-exams. I hope that I was able to answered your questions and clarify your concerns. Take care!
