IMPORTANT INFO!!!!!

I just wanted to let you know that heartworms CAN happen in cats.  My aunt's cat has it and there is no treatment for it!!  This was some shocking news to me!  I heard that cats can get it, but I've never personally known a cat to get it!  (Yes, strange sentence, but hopefully you know what I mean.)  What really suckss about it?  Cats can't tolerate the treatment that dogs get.  Gosh, that news really really shocked me.  I thought there was a treatment!!!  =[  To make things more shocking-her cat is an indoor cat!  How scary is that??????

Anyway, the good news is that there is a chewable preventative medicine that you give cats year round!!!  It's Heartgard.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up!  If you want to see more info on heartworms in cats here is a link:

I read it too! :)

Thanks for the info.  I'll bring it up to my Vet when I take Jade in for her cleaning on Friday.  Jade is indoor/outdoor, but once the weather warms up here, she tends to stay outside more starting in March.  I hate that, but she'll just scratch at the door endlessly if we try to keep her in at night.

Thanks again!

Thanks Sara, at least I know that at least ONE person read my post!

I'm sure Snickers will be fine.  I'm glad to hear that you're getting Heartgard-I am, too.  Give Snickers a chin scratch for me!!  =D

I saw this at my vets office last year but didnt realize there was no treatment for it.  I didnt get Snickers checked as he is mostly an indoor cat.  Now i am going to get him checked and get him going on some Heartgard as he does like to go outside on his leash and check things out.  Thanks ZQ for the info!!!!          sara
