cat anxiety

I wanted to get more information on why my female cat that has been neutered sprays blood and sometimes urine around the house when  I leave. Vet says she doesn't have a urinary tract infection and its caused by stress and nothing has changed in house hold for a few yrs.she mainly leaks blood on my chair

blood in the urine is often a sign of crystals(yes FLUTD)....b/c these tiny little crystals are sharp and 'scrape' the urethra when they pass urine...so painful too..thus peeing in inappropriate places particularly cool spots!!!!
similar to the feeling we have when we have a uti...it hurts!! and I know from my past experience I too like to use a cool cloth to soothe the area.

furmom, I do hope you have Autumn on canned food......the cause of FLUTD and crystals is not enough water as needed to flush out the bladder.
no matter how much water they drink it can't compensate for the lack of moisture in a dehydrated dry food diet....can't stress that enough.

I can also tell you a supplement to use to relax/soothe the bladder and minimize the pain rather than using a prescription..

My cat Autumn had the same thing happen to her about 6 months after I adopted her.  She would pee in the sink (or any light colored surface) and it would have blood in it.  I took her to two different vets several different times and neither could figure out what the problem was.  The finally diagnosed her with FLUTD.
"Feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) is not a specific disease, but rather is the term used to describe conditions that can affect the urinary bladder and/or urethra (the lower urinary tract) of cats."

She was given a relaxing pill (Can't remember the name right now) but it actually worked.  She hasn't had any other issues in the past 7 years.

Hi Abeckwith,

Yeah leaking BLOOD is perfectly normal, she is just stressed!!!!!! WTH!

Sorry about the sarcasm, but what kind of a vet says those things???
I agree with BluCrystal--"Find another Vet that knows what he is doing"

Leaking blood is NOT GOOD.  Take her to the vet (a different one who knows what he's doing) now.  Please!

Although I can kinda agree with the vet but, still quite makes me wonder. I am assuming they ran a full urinalysis including a microscopic exam but, did they do bloodwork, take X-rays or suggest an ultrasound?

Was any medication prescribed for the stress (Certain Drugs can actually helps both problems)? Were you given a follow-up date for either an appointment or to gather the urine to drop-off  or instructed to either drop her off for observation?

There are so many variables and a few possibilities for this but if you are not satisfied with that answer (I wouldn't be) do not hesitate to get another opinion. Would like a bit more info about your kitty, exactly what was done and suggested by your vet.

Don't go running out the door just yet! I am a Registered Veterinary Nurse who has had many an encounter with feline problems.I have had to talk pet parents about the ins and outs of this specific problem and may be able to help you with key points to talk with your vet about :) Just need more history on her such as age, when spayed, any other out of the ordinary things you can think of to get a help you the best way possible!

Hope you get a true and satisfactory answer(s) from your vet and your kitty gets better soon! Keep me updated and take care!
