kitties with renal failure

My two 17 year old cats are suffering from renal failure.  The female is not as far advanced as the male.  Both cats are taking Fortikor once daily and the male is also taking Epakitin twice daily.  To get them to take these products, I'm mixing in the Fortikor with a teaspoon or so of low protien canned food (prescription from the vet) and the Epakitin is being mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of yogurt.  I haven't had the male's urine and blood tested again yet (it's been just over a week since being prescribed the Epakitin).  I plan on going back next week to have him tested again.

The female is not as advanced as the male, I think.  Her urine concentration is still pretty high (visibly in the litter box, anyway).

Do you think that these two drugs (sic) are going to be enough for them?  I have no idea what their levels are.. The vet seems to think that the male has only about 5 - 6 months to live with the level of failure in his kidneys.    If caught early enough, can the above medications help and/or reverse kidney failure?

My 13 year old male cat also has renal failure.  I took him to the vet very late.  From a fat cat to a bonny cat.   Then I realized wasn't the diet food works that well.  It's actually some thing was going wrong.

He's also on Fortekor 2.5 daily.  Steriod injection twice a year.  My vet told me that he won't die in renal failure but will die in related other organs failure.  He still able to catch mice and bird (very naughty).  Fight with his sister (nearly 2 yrs old).  He is an out door and in door cat.  Just in and out as he wishes.  No prescribe food.  Bought the supermarket tin food or fresh mince.  Give him what he likes because he's old and sick.  As far as he enjoys - I gave him.  Even I took him to sit in the car and travel to the city that what he wants.  He can eat 3 x 85g tin food by himself at one meal...... and drink 100ml milk (no lactose).

I'm very sorry about your dear kitties, how terrible to be dealing with both kitties at the same time.
I'm afraid with the proper care and medication the disease can be managed but never reversed.
There is an excellent web site with tons of info on CRF I hope this will help more with all your questions, good luck to you and the little ones♥
