Tell her to remember that there are low-cost spay and neuter clinics available. I took my kittens at 4 mo and had them spayed at the ABC center (Animal Birth Control) and we took them in inthe morning and picked them up in the afternoon. And if she does turn up pregnant they can still spay her. It doesn't sound like your friend needs a bunch of unwanted kittens to deal with.
Thanks for your concern about Tibby! I told my friend what everyone suggested and as soon as $$ allows they will get her fixed. And she says thanks for all the help! Believe me, I'd take her if I could but I'm worse off financially so Tibs would be in the same boat at my house and my cats would think her bonkers for making messes all over. I hope they get her fixed soon, she really is adorable!!
I agree with the above suggestions.
Feliway will work only as a calming agent, I've had little success with.
Aftr she has been spayed (or sooner) your friend will need to get the urine smell out of the carpet, or kitty will keep thinking its her litter box and use.
A product the Vets on this forum have recommended is 'urine off' avail at pet stores.
Vinegar/ammonia solutions do not remove the scent.
good for you trying to solve kitties problems, its not fair to kitties to be given to a shelter when its often we humans that need to be more informed.
please continue to let us know how this all works out.
I don't think Feliway or any other spray will help unless the cat gets spayed. That is your friend's only solution. Having the cat spayed will eliminate that problem. Is there any reason she has kept that cat like that? If she is having money issues she can always take kitty to the local ASPCA. They offer cheap services and would be more than glad to help.
I agree with Linda. She is probably in heat or close to it and wanting out. She is trying to leave her "mark" as close to outside as she can get. Tell your friend to have her spayed.
Well, in the first place, if the cat is 1 1/2 yr old and unspayed she is probably plenty horney and is looking for male companionship. So that is her way of trying to attract a male cat... or she may have a urinary tract infection. Is she running a fever or have any other symptoms?
