diminished appetite

Catalina has been eating less lately, which is unusual for her, as she usually nearly finishes all food given to her, eating hungrily.  She still plays, grooms, and drinks.  She feels cool to the touch at times at least.  When I looked at her leg with the change in appetite (that she had been opening up) it looked like she has allowed it to heal partly.

But very recently, she has cut back on what she's eating, though at times eats hungrily.  About two months ago, she was weighing 11.8 pounds which had been the last time I weighed her it looked like on my little paper. Today, after only a few days, I believe, of changed appetite, I decided to weigh her.  She's at 11 pounds.  Could it be the change in season?  The neighborhood cats coming to call and get snacks (typically my mom gives them out) at the back door even though she's fixed?  I know she'd like to be petted or at least with someone at night while she's eating, but in the past appetite usually won out over her trying to train me to not only be with her the whole time she eats in the morning but evening too.

I'm concerned about her.  She hasn't a change in diet staples since this appetite change started.  Any ideas?  I thought maybe she was constipated, but she got deconstipated if she was (mixed 100 percent pumpkin one day with wet food, which she enjoyed).  But she still is not as hungry as usual.

I've been using green works natural dish soap and water on the floors, but when that rascal sneaks past me into the garage, yuck!  She has gone under the car and I hope she hasn't stepped where I sprayed a bunch of poison trying to kill a nasty spider some months back on one side of the garage.  I know at least once I washed her paws (but she's gotten out many other times) after she went out there.  Anyway, thanks, I'm glad she's feeling her old hungry self too!

Up until a few years ago, after both kitchen and bathroom floors were washed with STP, my husband put a coat of Mop & Glow on them.  We haven't used M&G for several yrs at least and Jade's vomiting is now on the rare side.

Also, I just read of someone spraying Fabreeze all over her house and when she quit, her kitty got better after yrs and spending hundreds of dollars all it was, was the Fabreeze.  So just goes to show, it can be anything at all, kitty could possible get on their paws or lie down on, then lick.  I don't know if either one of those chemicals were bothering Jade, but better to have peace of mind and be safe.  Never would of thought of the Fabreeze till reading a thread here a few days ago

Glad to hear Cat is feeling better! ♥

I think Catalina has caught something from us in the past, poor girl.  I didn't know that could happen.  But this time, if she did get something, she didn't have a lot of the cold symptoms my sister has.  But the rest of we humans in house had a touch of virus without a lot of cold symptoms.  But if it's not that, I'm thinking maybe Catalina did lick something that upset her system- Jade's guardian gave me that idea.  Her appetite, I'm thankful to the Lord, is back to its old hungry normal.

I'm almost sure cats can't catch viruses from us and visa versa.
She could have a kitty cold, though

She has done it close to the box before in part.  Also, she has made it part way up the stairs before it evidently came unstuck from her long fur there before.  This time, though, not sure it was the fur (though it is already looking winter long to me).  Might be because she was upset.

She has this thing that is a game to her about managing to sneak past us into the garage.  When she is put down in the basement for the night, she usually stays with no fuss.  It's not as if she hates the basement.  She likes to go down there to play by herself in the daytime, meowing loudly with mouse or ball in her mouth, has two cat cubes down there and plenty of places to go exploring.  On rare occasions, however (last night being one), when decided she didn't want to stay downstairs (yet anyway), so she kept sneaking past when I was trying to go upstairs and leave her there with closed door.  Naughty cat.  Anyway, my sister in the end carried her down and she had to stay anyway.

I hope it doesn't mean anything wrong health wise with her.  You may be right about an upset tummy.  She sure ate fine this morning though.  At first, one thought was maybe she had caught a virus that was going around in the house (my sister still has a cold), but she wasn't acting like she felt bad, except diminished appetite- still playing and grooming.  And wasn't sneezing a lot like she's done before when she got a cold.

Good to hear!  The eating part I mean.  You know, Catalina may have gotten into something...stepped in something, then lick her paw...who knows with cats, and that upset her tummy a little.  Jade was ill about 6mos ago - enough to take her to the vet, but naturally after paying the vet bill, she was magically fine the next day.

Hahaha...Cat *training* you to sit with her while she eats.  Oh boy, can I relate.  Jade wants to play the game of "no, I don't to eat in my normal spot outside the back door.  You must Bring it to me out in the backyard!"  I'm not well enough to play that game, so I bring it back in the house and make her come to Me.  Lol.

Seriously though, has Cat ever defecated outside the box like this before?  If not, and along with the appetite decrease, this *might* be a bad sign.

Well, good news!  A blessing from God on the morning before Thanksgiving day!  She got her appetite back and heartily this morning!  (although for some reason she chose to defecate in on the carpet where she sometimes lays downstairs instead of using her box for that)

Could she be bored of her food?
