Thanks for yet another great article, Opus. Ever since this subject came up, I've been concerned with feeding Jade this Yellowfin Tuna that FF makes. We buy the 24ct box to save money, but a third of it is Shredded Yellowfin. NATURALLY after reading that, it appears to me, Jade is acting unwell today (lol, sorta). Another distressing fact I included below. Fancy Feast is all about the little pop-top cans. Nothing good about this food, is there.
"There's also been a link established between pop-top cans or canned cat food and hyperthyroidism."
OMG! I ran outta wet cat food last night and fed all them tuna fish. I will never do that again,,I had no idea!
I have given Tweety some tuna and the juice but only every so often I wont give her it again , does this cover the fish products in the wet cat food like friskies ?
A little people tuna once in a blue moon isn't going to hurt.
Margy, yes, the article is in regard to the fish in the wet food. That's my concern with Jade and eating so much Yellowfin tuna. Luckily, she doesn't seem to care about people tuna or the juice while our last cat practically did acrobatics for it. No more Yellowfin for my girl!
Ouch, Fluffy died of squamous cell carcinoma. I hope my Wellness Core dry food is OK for Beau: it has whitefish meal, herring meal, & salmon oil. I'll call the company & see what they say.
You know, I'm not quite sure how far this fish thing goes. Opus may have a better opinion. If you have the time, read the article and see what you think since the company will likely say *their* food is the best in the world!..you know? I know the Wellness Core is a good food, but K, Beau really should be on all wet food, especially with the possible display of a UTI. I know dry food is infinitely easier, though. After Jades scare with crystals and UTI in 09, I got her on two cans of Fancy Feast (ugh) a day instead of one, then cookies (the cookie thing just comes out and what my folks called dry food when I was a child) which is Wellness dry if she's still hungry later at night. But predominantly wet food.
Prayers for Beau...
Oh geez! I knew tuna was a no-no, but Diego is a guy who loves his FF classic salmon. Since I learned the importance of wet food in his diet, he usually gets a can daily. He prefers any of the fishy dishes. Usually ignores beef, chicken and even turkey....so I am going to have to start easing off the salmon. Dang ..just when I found wet food that he liked!
As Diego is probably fed by several other residents of apt. complex...I need to be sure what he gets @ his main home is good for him.
Random footnote: the other night he had two dinner guests...so much fun to watch the reactions. One is a black cat who seems to be his BFF: the other is one he likes to chase off the property. Blackie and he share without any fuss. But the other guy keeps his distance..or the hissing/growling game begins.
hi everyone....just a quick note tonight, its been a long day.
Just wanted to say to all of you, to take the article as info only....we as humans are never going to feed the 'perfect' food no matter how we knock ourselves out.....and I'm as guilty as anyone with feeding fish to one...although I am trying to limit his exposure to it as much as possible....
IMO WET food is the very best we can do for our kitties, esp the males who easily have urinary problems.....in catinfo.org Dr. Pierson states ANY wet food is better than the best of dry foods...
so we do what we can, we limit the dry and limit the fish....and care for our babies the best we can. .....♥ to you all...
fluffysmom, I sure hope Beau is OK...let us know what the Vet has to say. Jade is right, no matter what the Vet MAY tell you...if its crystals get him on WET food asap...♥
