When my cat is left home alone, I have busted him when i have forgotten something... He will make a sound like a whale almost. It sounds like he is saying "Whhhyyyyy". It is so funny. I tried to record him once but he busted me.
That sounds cute! I once thought my cat was saying "mommy" but I was mistaken. lol
YES! My cats do the "mooommm" thing all the time. Once in a while, in the middle of the night one of my cats will wander around saying "hello?? hello??". I kid you not. And she's not the first cat I've had that did that. It is a VERY pronounced "hello" too.
My cat Basmati has one vocalization in particular that he uses only when he wants more scratching or brushing. He barely parts his lips and acts as though it is taking his last breath to squeeze out a little "m-e-h-h" to tell me that more brushing would be acceptable. I think they try out various sounds until they find one that gets a reaction, and then continue to use the sound because it works.
By the time Loreena was a young ever famished cat ( loooong time ago) I used to show her the pot with food and ask her "Quer ? ( informal way to say "do you want? in portuguese)
And the answer was " QUÉ ( quero =want)
Nowadays she has better techniques for, including massages in my belly and pots fallen -and less appetite
It's amazing how precise their vocalizations can be!
That was amazing!!! Most of them were plain as day!! What happiness that brought me and Scout wanted to know where the kitties were..
Google "Hello cats" if you want to see a series of funny cats whose meows sound almost exactly like "Hello, hello." There is one in a car in a carrier who is really funny.
My first rescue, Tuna Cat (03/1978 - 07/1994) had 2 distinct vocalizations besides the usual. When she would stand at the patio door her meow sounded like Me Out? When she would stand near the door to the cellar steps (her food bowl was on the landing) her meow sounded like Me Eat?
