Frustrated cat mama!

Hi - New to the forums but I really didn't think I'd ever be in this situation but I am seriously so frustrated. I am just going to post this same question to as many places as possible until I get help.

The question is so simple but I cannot find an answer....how do I feed my pet wet food when I am not able to be at home during the day?

Such a simple question but the back story is NOT I guess very simple. In a nutshell, my beloved cat got lepidosis and she almost died. Feeding tube, whole 9 yards..round the clock feedings through the tube every 3 hours, even at night, yes. Formula was a special formula, $10 a can would feed her maybe two feedings. Mind you she was consuming 2 to 3 cans a day I was eating ramen noodles, believe it.

I'm 25. I am in graduate school and I wait tables. While my precious child was sick I had to take off work for 5 weeks. I had to go back to work or risk both of us being on the street, we live alone in a studio apartment. I can't express to you the trauma I am now facing b/c after all of that (and 3 THOUSAND dollars in vet bills) I cannot be there to open her wet food meals.

Why is that so important you ask? Well, here's the situation, she has to be on wet food, she is REALLY picky right now as you can imagine not having eaten any food w her mouth in several weeks only through the tube it is taking her a while to figure out what she likes again. I can't blame her. There is another serious problem, she is only able to eat the smallest meal container that pet food comes in b/c of her very tender tummy, she can have 3 oz before she gets sick, vomits, has diarrhea. So I cannot leave w her more than one opened can of food bc if she eats too much she WILL get ill. So you see, I cannot leave her kibble, I cannot leave her more than one can.

Secondly, she MUST eat. If she does NOT eat while I am gone at work or school, she has a chance of getting lepidosis again. We can't go through that again.

Thirdly, I am already late w my rent so paying a pet sitter (at $150 a week) is out of the question.

Rehoming her. DO NOT EVEN GO THERE (sorry, just one rude person actually suggested I find her another home.) And finally, my boyfriend/ friends do stop by and help sometimes but they work and go to school too. None of us are rolling in time or cash at the moment. Especially me after spending ALL of my savings when my girl got sick.

Pet parents. Please help me. What should I do? How can I feed my darling baby?? If she gets sick again after everything we have been through. I can't even GO there.

My vet just nodded her head and looked down when I told her all of this. She feels bad but says there isn't any option for me other than to stay home or get a pet sitter??!!!?? Is this true?

Annie, no human child, my cat is my baby! Sorry didn't mean to confuse, but yes I call my cat my kid lol it truly feels like she is after everything we have been through together and I would do anything to make her happy. I wish I could pay a neighbor, but I literally don't know anyone around here and it's mostly young people where I live so everyone works.

Some days I have longer days out of the house than others. On the shorter 6 hour days we can manage but those days don't come often unfortuantely...my classes are at night and I work lunch and dinner shifts at work.

I keep googling automatic feeders for cats and can't seem to find anything that keeps the wet food fresh! All the ones on Amazon are mostly for dry kibble. I guess you could use it for wet. I'm willing to try anything...Do you have a link to a product, Annie?

opus88, thank you so much, yes I am so frustated! Thank you for your prayers. I had not thought of freezing the food that's a good idea, I'll try it, I'll try anything at this point! lol thanks you guys xoxoxo

O my goodness, I hear the fear and frustration in yr words, you are trying so hard dear momma. It is very traumatic looking after a sick animal, not to mention that Vet bill...outrageous!!!
I ask the same question as Annie, how many hours in astretch do you need to be gone from home?
How often does she need to be fed? I can offer perhaps an answer to one extra feeding. If you froze the contents of one can, like an ice cube, than set it out in a dish when you left, it would take a few hours to unthaw before she could eat it.
Or a kind neighbour? Sorry off the top of my head I can't think of any other helpful solutions for you.
Your both in my prayers, I truly hope you can find something that will work for you both

You said, "When my precious child was sick ..." -- I assume you mean your cat?  Not that you also have a child?

What is the length of the usual stretch of time when you aren't home in the day?  Would you be able to pay a neighbor to feed her one meal a day?

Have you looked into those timer-based food dishes that open at a time you set but are closed otherwise?
