Injury #2

Back to the vet again today, with Reese.

This time it wasn't his fault though. I have a wooden paper plate holder hanging on the wall and it fell and landed right on him!! His leg isn't completely well from the time before and then I don't know where this hit him exactly but he was crying every time I touched his back or the right hip (first injury was left leg).

No broken bones....more pain meds.

Great news!! I'm glad he's doing better. I've been reading, but haven't had a chance to comment (had a recent unexpected death in my family, of the human variety this time) so I've been scarce around these parts. But I just wanted to let you know i've been thinking of your kitty ever since I read this!

I’m glad that Reese is doing a lot better, cats heal faster, and well they say they have healing powers.

Update:

Reese got up and walked around. Wanted some more lovin. Then went to where his food normally is and sat there. So, I went and got his bowl off of the ottoman and put it back and he ate almost half the bowl. He walked around a bit more before getting in my recliner. So, it looks like he is rallying up!!! Yayyyyyy!!!!

Yay, good news!

Thank you for explaining about the pain meds.  I agree, probably a combo of both meds and hurting from his injuries.  There is always the factor of trauma from the vet visit, as well.

Keep us posted honey...

Was just checking in and saw that Reese had some water and hopefully is feeling a little better. If Reese continues to no eat or drink much than I think IV fluids may be in order. Be sure and check with your vet --he may be dehydrated.

Hope you both have a GOOD Night

The med is only for 5 days worth so he was off of it for several days in between 1st & 2nd injury.
Also, he was much more active and eating normally the 1st time than he is this time so, I don't know if this one just hurts more or if it is the combo of both hurting that is keeping him down (my opinion is it's the combo).
I am still offering wet food some with dry food always. He has not drank yet though and I even tried getting him to drink out of spray bottle which he LOVES...and he refused that too. So, if anyone has a suggestion pls tell me.

Well, sorry for the little Reese! It must be too painful for him to move, and I don’t think the meds are what made his appetite/activity decrease, I think it just the fact that he is injured.

Please continue offering Reese the wet food.  Very important he eats to gain his strength.  I agree with CML, is likely the meds making him lethargic.  The problem with pain meds is they make it hard to tell if his injury(s) are healing or not (since he is just lying there).  Idk, if I were you I would cut back on the meds ever so slightly, as he's been on them a while due to his first injury.  His behavior might simply be a matter of being over-medicated.

p.s. *laid*  :)

AWWWWW! Reese is really hurtin, huh?

The pain meds are probably making him not move much. They might even affect his appetite.

Keep us up to date. Poor baby --sending get well wishes !

Update...

Reese is pretty much the same today. He had not moved from the place on sofa that I put him on at all. I did put a small food and water dish on the ottoman next to him, he took 2 bites at that time and that's all.
This morning it didn't appear as if he had moved all night long and and still had food in dish so, I don't think he ate much if any. I offered him half a can of wet food and he did eat that right up. Then the maintenance man came to fix a leak and he RANNN and hid. He always does, he is scared to death of him. I took the opportunity to switch blankets. And when he finally hobbled back in here he layed down and hasn't moved since. He did go to litter box before he came back to living room.

(Side note....my spell checker is telling me that "layed" is misspelled?? Weird! lol)

Definitely, close confinement should help.

Yeah the vet told me to put him in bathroom with litter box and food close by so he could do as little walking as possible.

Oh my, this is not Reese's year, is it.  I'm wondering if you should crate him for a few days.?  It would be hard to bear, but for his own good.  He might not mind with pain meds in him.  Just to let his injuries get a head start in healing.
