Yes definitely a reaction, all these spot on treatments contain pesticides and are potentially dangerous

I'm suspecting my cats are also allergic to Advantage ll. About 7 days after applying it on my 2 cats one of them started scratching and licking himself. No fleas were found anywhere on him or the house dead or alive. Took him to the vet. she thought he might have a pollen allergy and gave him a cortisone shot. It worked for about a day and the next day he started again. Then I noticed my other cat also scratching. I'm ready to pull my hair out trying to figure out what on earth it can be. I've come to the conclusion it's the Advantage. It spreads on their body and the fleas are killed on contact, no need to bite the cat. They had no fleas to begin with and weren't scratching before I applied it so it must be the medication. While petting one of them I noticed a slight "medicine" smell on my hands. I will not be reapplying it next month. If they do get fleas I'll switch to something else without the ingredients that Advantage has.
For anyone else that may read this site I am a year late but just had an experience with my cat
DAWN dish soap
is what I was told to rinse it off My cat had a severe allergic reaction to Advantage II which the company tells me is impossible but my poor cat had muscle spasms and had to be rushed to the ER when I came home 8 hours from work VERY SCARY
Yes Jade, he seems okay. It was a night I don't care to repeat, to say the least. He woke me up the next morning by dropping a ball on my face. Very normal.
Jade and Brandywinne, thanks again. I like this community and I hope to stay and possibly be useful at some point.
Thank you all for your help.
Good suggestion, Brandywinne! I thought of that, but figured it being an oily type substance, it wouldn't wash off. Thanks for your post!
Wash it off immediatly and try something else may be allergic to it.
Hi and welcome! Maybe fleas running from the Advantage...or allergic reaction? Have you used this product before? If your cat really seems distressed, I'd call an ER vet and relay what's happening.
