HISSIE IS HOME

Hissie got to come home from the vet yesterday afternoon. She sure was happy to get home. She flew out of her cat carrier, once we got home...lol. Hissie seems to be feeling really good. Had a bowel movement after the enema at the vet's. She had a good bowel movement today for us here at home. Seems fiber is Hissie's problem. Vet has put her on Enulose and Cisapride. The Enulose is a stool softner and Cisapride helps intestinal motility. Hiss is to be on it long term as the vet said. Which I know means for life. Which is just fine by us. We want to keep our old girl healthy. They gave Hiss another bath at the vet. Sprayed her with cat perfume. I told Hissie she sure smelled sexy...lol. She so deserves to smell so good. Hissie has sure been surprising us. She has come out into the main part of the house numerous times over the days. I just spent a long time last night, with her on my chest on the couch. Then, early this morning she pops into the dining room and I spent close to an hour holding her in my lap. Hissie still does not like poor little Paradise. Hissie will hiss at her. But, Hissie is tolerating Paradise as part of the family now I believe. Hissie got her name because she was quite the hisser, when we first met her. Every now and then, she can still live up to her name. But, she a sweetheart with me and my husband. But, we are going to give these two meds to Hissie faithfully. PrettyKitty, I do have a question for you? Do you recommend me giving Hissie the husk and enzymes, along with these meds? I very much will do so, if that is your recommendation. The vet was off yesterday, so I did not get to ask her about these items. Only the staff was there. But, we feel so fortunate and blessed, that our Hissie will be just fine. The bowel problem is an issue, but one that can be controlled. I know at 15, we are lucky, that she has no serious issues such as diabetes, renal failure, etc. I will be keeping a close eye on Hissie though. In case, something else could be going on. But, I am really feeling this inner peace. I think we found her problem God Bless each of you and your precious little pets. You all are such fantastic loving people. You all talk about me being a good Momma to Hiss. You all are wonderful loving parents to your little pets, too. I feel it in your words and the devotion you all have to this forum. You all have been nothing but so wonderful to me. I truly feel blessed having you all through this. I will still devote time to this forum, trying to at least soothe someone, that is worrying over their beloved kitty. I will check in from time to time and let all know how Hissie girl is.

Aw Lynn, see? She pulled through!!! Told ya!!!  This is great, just great! Everything is great news. I keep telling Abby what’s been going on with Hissie and he is also very happy, in his cat way.

Your question, if you are giving her two different meds, I think that’s enough for her. She should be fine with it. If she gets stressed because of that then you could try the physillium husk which will keep her regular and it is natural. Keep in mind that too much fiber causes constipation. Just the right amount of fiber is what helps them evacuate with absolutely no problems.  I would add digestive enzymes to her diet and you could ask your vet. I am saying this because she has been kept on poor nutrition a long time. Cats that get affected by it, like yours and my cat do need something to aid digestion and make everything right IN there! You see, some cats that have been kept on dry foods for along time loose bowel elasticity, which is what’s happening with Hissie. To help with this problem, an experienced lady named Anne recommends physillium husk.  She put up the website www.catnutrition.org, which has plenty of references from nutritionists and DVM’s around the country and Canada. If you read her story and what she has to offer as far as information goes, you might find answers to all your questions. I know I did. However, if you have other sources to keep her bowel movements going, then I wouldn’t add physillium husk.  BUT, always consult with your vet. I have two vets. One of them hates the fact that I’m feeding my cats raw foods. The other one is thrilled with it and feeds her cats raw foods as well.

Keep up the good work.

It's good to hear, too, that Hiss and Paradise are becoming friends.
