I think the construction site is fascinating. i've even taken to eating at the diner where some of the workers eat. They are a strange but fun bunch.
I watched in amusement as one spent two minutes trying to direct a co-worker standing by the drinks cooler in which drink he wanted (couldn't remember the label name, apparently) until the co-worker at the cooler got fed up, told him to get his own drink, and then sat down and berated him for five minutes in a loud jamaican accent about why he'd never get anywhere in life if he couldn't get his own drink, let alone tell someone else how to do it properly. :)
We still haven't heard from our missing guest. I hear that they've got a different concept of "doing things in a hurry" than Americans there in Ethiopia (his words, not mine).
I'm going to have to start saying "I'll take care of that in an Ethiopian minute" when I want to take my time getting something done! :->
Hopefully you weren't stuck waiting at the airport . That can be gahstly, 5 hours stuck in arrivals.
I might have voted to at least pass by the never ending construction site as it could have been a topic of conversation. At least you got to head on home and go back to bed without having to trape around the city for hours on end with a total stranger. You would have made it enjoyable, I'm sure. ;>}
We were stuck as to what to show him with just four hours, it being 8Am in the morning as well. I suggested taking him to check out the 9th wonder of the world;
a NYC construction site which has been going on for nearly a decade. many workers puttering about, but nothing ever seems to GET DONE!!!
i was voted down for reasons i can't begin to understand. :)
A Memorial Day to remember, for sure!!!!!! Well, it is the Ethiopian's loss........I'm sure you would have given him a fab tour of the city! :-)
