YOUR question on canned food.....depends on the Milo's weight and appetite......at least one can, but he may want more, I'm sure 2 at the most they are 7 oz cans aren't they????....go by his appetite.
I should add....by cooking slowly for 24 hours in a slow cooker wth lots of water to completely cover all the chicken parts....and adding the 1 tablespoon of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR...this softens the bones to the point that they grind up very easily..some of the smaller bones I could mush with just a spoon even. so be sure to include the apple cider vinegar.
hi.....the recipe for the chicken broth is for one with bones...and with putting the tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in with the boned chicken it leaches the calcium out of the bones....this makes a good BROTH....with just some shredded chicken pieces. but its mainly the broth you want...to get extra fluids into Milo.
so by using a boneless chicken breast you are just feed chicken with NO broth and No calcium.
Thank You Opus! Yes they were the struvite crystals. I have some Friskies wet food left over from Zachary. I will start him on that and I usually add in extra water just for the heck of it. I will get some chicken parts. What about frozen chicken breasts? Our baby kitten that we have now is only eating Milo's food and I caught him throwing up also. How many cans of wet food are you supposed to feed them a day? They are free fed. I know! I know!
btw.....even tho the can food has 6x more moisture than dry I would still mix in just a bit more water with it....he needs lots of moisture to help flush out his bladder.
if you want to do a homemade recipe for him for a bit(this is just for temporary diet because it does NOT have all the supplement/vitamins in that he needs but it will help him with getting some extra fluids)
do you have a slow cooker?
get some chicken parts and remove the skin..
put in a slow cooker with enough water to cover fully....lots of water. add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar(this leaches the calcium out of the bones) and is good for PH also.
cook on low for 24 hrs....than strain out ALL the bones be sure you get all those tiny little ones too...don't want him chocking on anything...so you may need to feel through it all with your hands, to be extra sure they are all out..chickens have so darn many tiny bones..if they are really soft you can grind them up and add if you like, but don't leave any in the food unless they are GROUND UP..really well.
just keep the meat and the liquid...it should gel up as it cools....feed him a nice bowl of this soupy chicken, he will love it and it will give him the extra fluids he needs right now...
I do this for Nemo once in awhile....in fact I'm cooking a batch right now and he is whimpering beside me because they've been cooking all day and he can smell it :)
sorry to hear abt Milo's issues......yup NO dry food...thats why his PH is high and he has crystals...
bkitty ANY wet food is better than any dry food, no matter how good they tell you they are, they are what causes crystals..because they are so dehydrating to the urinary tract.
put him on any can food he will eat.....would be the best if it were grain free type sold at good pet stores but even cheap old fancy feast classic is better than all the dry foods out there...
my Nemo had huge issues with crystals....he's been OFF dry food for 2.5 years now...and his PH is back down to normal range and NO more crystals....
I do imagine they were struvite crystals and NOT oxolate right????
struvite crystals are entirely due to diet and lack of moisture....
however oxolate stones are not diet related in fact theres nothing that will work for those:( so I sure hope it is the struvite and I do imagine so as they are the most common and since your Vet put him on that science diet crap....
