Savas, Mrs_Savas, April, Sara, BP look !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think all that hair loss isn't good at all. My boy keeps getting worse. I do not know if ringworm or any dermatologic condition affects a cat's demeanor, but Abby isn't even grooming. I called the vet and said the shampoo or Lamisil weren't working. I made an appointment for tomorrow. If nothing works fast, I will take him to the Dermatologist. Maybe a specialist can help me here. It's been weeks and it's only getting worse. The skin is scabby and scaly, and it just doesn’t look healthy at all. Today I saw a scab with hair almost ready to fall on the floor from his ears. I washed it and now on the picture it looks wet because I put Tresaderm per vet’s instructions. Take a look see :(

Know what the funny part is? Dillan isn’t showing signs. Vet said all that hair loss is due to playing.  And the hair is growing back. Makes me wonder if Dillan is a carrier. I need to get this straighten up ASAP.

Just to give you an idea, the area around the ears were ONLY two small spots of missing hair. Now it almost the entire ear!!!!!! I have to get this straightened up.

Oh my....Poor Abby.......I am glad you are taking him to the doctor.  Hopefully it will be something simple to fix.  Could he be lacking something in his diet??  I dont have a clue so am just throwing something out here.  Is Dillan still losing hair too??

No, Dillan isn't losing any more hair. You have a good point about the diet, but it just seems weird that he is showing signs of something totally related to ringworm and it is only getting worse. You're right, lack of certain fats or digestive nutrients can cause a cat to lose hair; but that is precisely what I don't stop feeding him. I talked to the vet about his diet and everything I put on it, and even the amounts and frequency, and he said I was doing a good job, even looked into cat diet books and said Abby's diet was complete and balanced. This would be the new vet. I have 2 vets I take my cats to in case I need a second opinion. I even have a book called "Raising Cats Naturally" by Michelle Bernard, which teaches how to properly raise a carnivore in terms of proper nutrition. I do not deviate from the information contained in the book I swear. Everything she says, I do. In fact, I may even post something about it...just as a FYI. Good book!!

If it isn't ringworm....could it be the new Lysol product I bought recently? Yikes, I don't know anymore....I'll let you know tomorrow, when I get back from the vet's. If nothing works fast I will definitely take him to the Dermatologist this week, if possible.

Did you see his ears?      &*^*(&()*)(&*%&^$%$%#%$R^&*()

Wow, I don't know what this could be either. I sure hope you find out soon! Let us know. Hopefully, it is something that can be easily fixed. Maybe it's just a bad case of the ringworm. I would think if he was allergic to the Lysol you'd see more sneezing, etc. I just don't know. I hope you can get some answers tomorrow!

Poor Abster........Did you read the back of the Lysol bottle??  I dont use that stuff anymore as i worry about the beagle and S licking their feet and you dont always know what is exactly in that stuff.  I know Mrs_Savas had responded to a post a long time ago about some cleaners that are safe to pets.........cant remember so i will go digging!!!!

It says it's safe for pets, but you never know. I guess he has a really bad case of ringworm. I found another lession in his paw. All of this mess just makes me feel helpless. The ringworm test hasn't come back positive yet, but it is not time to tell yet. I have to wait 5 more days. Today I told the vet I didn't have 5 days and neither did my cat and I needed answers ASAP. If it is ringworm then at least I'll know I can treat that. I just need to know fast before it keeps spreading, and in the meantime, I'm treating him with stuff that doesn't even work. I will remind him of Itraconazole one more time. He said it was the most effective product for ringworm and if the shampoo didn't work, he would prescribe that.

Is that stuff harmful to them if they dont have ringworm??  I would think if it isnt he would give you some to treat Abby.  His little ears look so sore.  Why do they quit grooming themselves??  I thought it was something cats always did??

Sara,

It's 3:38 pm. My appt is at 5:00 pm. I will definitely keep you updated on this. Today, his ears are completely hairless. There are some loose scabs with a bit of blood underneath. The skin is dry and scaly. I don't think treatment is working; but I have never had a cat with ringworm before, so I don't know what this means. According to the vet, it is getting worse, so I am taking him to the vet for a faster cure.

I think when they're really uncomfortable or in pain they just act careless, just like us. He has had eye discharge since yesterday morning and doesn't even care he has crusties. I have to clean it up, such clean kitty, was doing so well cleaning his bootie and all (remember he wouldn't clean his behind due to all that blood and loose stool? he had been cleaning it since the IBD went away) *sigh*

Overall, my cat has no luck. First, IBD, then the URI with fever and all, and now this all in less than 6 months. What's next? Cancer?
Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry Abby's going through this. Hang in there. Hopefully it will all be over soon. Let us know what the vet says.

Hugs to you and Abby!

Well girls, I took my cat to the vet and this is what she says:

Abby has ringworm, a very bad case. She prescribed some tablets which I don’t recall the name; but since topical treatment and shampoo aren’t really working, she is confident the tablets will take effect.  I have to go to the pharmacy and get them myself. These are very strong; she told me Abby should get only half and Dillan a quarter tablet. When she saw him, her jaw dropped. She could not believe the change that took place in a week.  Today the ears look worse and, Sara, yes, she mentioned the right ear being sore. I have to take him back in 2 weeks. The tablets may have some side effects like vomiting and itchiness in the face.  She said if I see any of those side effects to discontinue treatment. With Abby’s luck, he will have the side effects, heh heh…

He also has ringworm in the shoulder and that one is also getting bigger.

As dessert for you guys………….ready?  Abby has fleas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I did get Revolution and put it in the back of the neck of both my cats. I wanted to get Borax or any product with Borate derivatives to clean my carpet and get rid of the fleas, in case there are fleas in my carpet which I wouldn’t doubt. I am also vacuuming every day as it gets rid of the fleas and the eggs, but vacuuming doesn’t get rid of the larvae. I need Borax. If any of you lovely ladies know where I can get that I’d appreciate it. I went to Home Depot and Lowe’s and could not find it. I don’t know what else to throw away. I have thrown away so much already. I am talking about expensive stuff like chairs, brand new, which I haven’t even finished paying for, bed covers, bed sheets. I had to get rid of their kitty beds and cat tunnel, their collars and tags, some clothes of mine, and I’m thinking of getting rid of the cat tree.  I don’t mind any of this. I can get those items any time.  I just want them to get better. No point in vacuuming every day when the cats are still sick. Gotta do both at the same time. I just don’t know how bad the flea infestation in my house really is. The fleas and the ringworm is my fault for letting him go outside (even under my supervision).

Thank you girls, for being there.....

I really hope he gets better real soon :( Hang in there, love :) You got the right meds now and that should help him a lot! You're such a wonderful pet owner :) God bless you. Abby and Dillan are so lucky!

I had a cat with the same condition, behind the ears.  It can actually get pretty nasty - poor Abby!  Yuck!  Try to get some of that yucca extract powder that I always talk about.  Our guy didn't clear up until we started giving him that along with his meds.

Fleas are such a bummer to deal with, I totally feel for you.  We fight the good fight against fleas constantly, at home and at the shelter.  They are worse than bedbugs to get rid of, I sometimes think!  And you can't always tell if a cat has them just by looking.

But the good news is that this is stuff that can be dealt with.  I know you and your cats don't need this right now, but it really could be worse!

Mrs_Savas,

Is this fine? Will it work? Is this what you recommend? I'm ready to use my credit card right now if you tell me that this is what cured your cat.

Well now we know what we are dealing with.......time to get the 2 boys on the mend.  Do you have a Mills Fleet and Farm where you are at?  Menards?  Check the grocery stores too.  Someone has to have Borax.

Our little men will get better......I know this seems like a mess right now but it is something that they will recover from.  Dont stress yourself out to the point of getting sick again.......We need to have you well when they get better and start tearing up the place!!!!!!   hugs to you Abby and Dillan.........sara, S and the beagle

Hi PK, sorry Abby's having such a rough time. I sure hope things get better soon! Feel free to call me whenever you like, after 9pm or on weekends unless you have AT&T like me.
Maybe the fleas are making this all worse? Fleas can be so nasty. I know when we lived in Florida we used to get our house sprayed once a month or so but we didn't have pets then so I don't know if they can do that with pets. I think they say everyone has to be out of the house all day, at least. I don't know if you might want to call an exterminator to see if it can safely be done with pets or not.
I sure hope Abby starts getting better real soon. Keep us informed.
*Hugs*
April

Hi ladies,

Well, I called the other vet for a second opinion on the tablets and he said Lamisil made him vomit and that half a tablet for Abby was too much since the tablets are kindda big. He recommended something else, a tablet, of course, since the ringworm is so bad. He will call me again in a few minutes with the info and prescription. I don’t know what to do anymore or who to believe, when both my vets are contradicting each other. I am WASTING money and time. My gut feeling tells me NOT to give Abby these tablets because the vet who prescribed them said that it could cause damage to the liver, vomiting and uncontrollable itchiness.

Sara, I went to the groceries store and got Borax. Thank you honey. I got two big ol’ boxes and I’m ready to vacuum the house and pour some Borax powder over the carpet to get rid of the fleas. I brushed both my cats today but didn’t see any. Maybe he doesn’t have a lot, or maybe the Revolution product has killed many.

Any ways…I thank you guys for your help and support one more time. I will wait for my vet to call me with the prescription for the other tablets because I feel that these will be safer for the cats.

April....I don't have AT&T but T-Mobile. But we can talk for free after 9:00, right? But you're, what 2 hrs behind? So you would be able to talk for free after 11:00 pm MY time, right?

Tis true! :) You're more the night owl than me anyway, lol. You're younger, you can stay up later!

I didn't know Borax got rid of fleas. I'll have to remember that. Not that we have fleas in Colorado but just in case I ever go south again!

April,
Yes, Borax is excellent. Everybody here in Palm Beach uses it to kill fleas and you only have to do it ONCE.

I put a bit of tea tree oil in my cat's ears. Next thing I know, it is highly toxic to cats and it has killed many cats before. I didn't know :( According to the manufacturer and my vet, my cat is in grave danger. If something happens to Abby I don't know what I'll do. Do you see what desperation causes? I am not going to sleep tonight. I'm scared sh!tless!!!!

How do I take that off of him????
