This suspected brand of salmonella is particularly lethal in its worst symptoms. As I'm sure you were told, infection to the heat valves and other systems are the major contributing factor to death.
Be sure to document your pet's treatment; I know you don't want to think about this at this time, but it's important you do so to help hold the company accountable. To many pet food makers are being sloppy and irresponsible about product control. They need to be held accountable.
That being said, if you're concerned about the quality of care your vet is giving you, your best bet is to contact the department of health for more detailed answers (the contagion is dangerous to humans as well) as well as calling an accredited animal hospital to get more reliable information on your cat's health needs.
Did the vet actually state your cat tested positive for the contagion that led to the recall?
The best thing you can do is keep her in a quiet room where she can hopefully fight off the illness.
I'm sorry this happened to you. It's very frustrating when your pet has an illness and you're in the "wait and see" stage of treatment. Again, don't hesitate to get a second opinion; it could make the difference in a successful outcome.
It would help out a lot, if you tell us what your cat was tested for and the results. It's very hard to give advice w/out the test results. What brand of cat food was it? What was the contaminant? Why antibiotics, if this was caused by a contaminant? Contaminants need to be flushed out, and, of course antibiotics get rid of infection.
Please, give some more info., and I will get back to you, and I bet others will, too!! In the meantime, I'd do everything possible to prevent your cat from getting dehydrated, I'd give her syringes of water(your vet can give you one). I'd only do this if the cat is not drinking enough. Check for hydration by lifting the scruff of the neck up(where the mom cat lifts the kittens up), if the skin on the scruff of the neck doesn't snap right back and remains up, then the cat is dehydrated. That's the only advice I can give you right now, sorry.
