What are some of the crazy or funny things your cat does?

Hi! I thought it'd be fun to share some of our cat's little quirks and get a good laugh, hopefully. What are some of the crazy, funny or downright strange things that your cat does?

My oldest cat (she's 11) has always had a thing for my husband's black dress socks. We have a bed that has the underdrawers and she'd always go into his drawer with the socks and pull them out and carry them around the house meowing this mournful meow. We used to wonder if she might have had a litter when she was younger and maybe thought the socks were her kittens? She was adopted from the Humane Society when she was 2 years old.
Anyway, my husband is always scrambling around trying to find his sock and we find little piles of them all over the house. Funny thing is she only does it to his socks, not mine! Lately, she hasn't been too picky on the socks and is now pulling out his white sports socks as well as the dress black socks (still not pulling out my socks!) This has been going on as long as we've had her. My poor husband is always looking for his socks. He tried putting them into a higher drawer thinking she wouldn't get into them but no luck, she still would pull out just his socks! What can I say? She likes his socks! :)

We have another cat that just turned a year old. She definately has her own personality! She likes to play with the little plastic cups that you get with liquid medicine like Nyquil, etc. That is her all time favorite toy! I've tried buying her cat toys but she likes the little plastic cups. It all started when we left out some medicine on the counter and she picked the cup up in her mouth and dropped it on the floor and started batting it around. She loves it! I finally let her have one of the cups to play with and put the rest up.

What about the rest of you guys? Savas, I know you always have funny stories to tell about your cats! Let's hear all your stories!

Usually when he hears someone headed for the bathroom, he runs ahead and hides in the shower...you never know if/when he will strike.  He is definitely entertaining!!!

Cute story...Bandit sounds like a smart little stinker (well, BIG stinker I mean:) It reminded me of my former cat, Simba. She had a kitty door which was nice so I didn't have to keep opening the door to let her in and out but the drawback was that she would hunt and then bring whatever she caught into the house. YUCK! Mice, lizards, you name it. One day I was on the phone when she came in and dropped a baby bird at my feet. I mean itty bitty baby..it was opening it's little beak like when it's waiting for it's momma to drop a worm in. Simba was so proud but I was horrified! I dropped the phone and screamed. I tried in vain to find the bird's nest so I could return it but could not. I ended up placing it up in a tree hoping the parents could find it. Poor Simba....she must have wondered why I did not appreciate her "gift".

Hi all. I'm kinda new to this too!.  My name is Tammy.  I have really enjoyed everyones stories.  Right now I only have 2 cats.  They are bro and sis. Harley and Harmony. About 1 1/2 years old.  Harmoney kinda stays to herself, We call her the diva.  Harley on the other hand is all out.  He wakes my hubby up by laying on his pillow and licking his head.  It's his way of saying feed me.  His favorite toy however is a plastic spoon.   We have hardwood floors.  They slide so easy.  He has a ball.
We used to have a cat named Bandit.  We believe he was part mancoon.  He weighed at most 28 pounds.  He got in the most trouble.  We live in the country.  Our neighbor accross the road has cows.  Now Bandit would bring home everything.  I'm talking everything,  rabits, birds,  the other neighbors cat.  So one day we noticed him stalking accross the neighbors yard.  One of the cows was sticking it's head through the fence to graze.  We watched for awhile.  And then as one of the cows stuck his head through the fence, bandit attacked it.  It was so funny, the cow threw him in the air.  Bandit just landed on all fours and just had the look of,  Well then.  Then he attacked a large group of wild turkeys.  Lets just say the few feathers he got was nothing compared to the hair he was missing.  Oh, he liked to train our dog too!. Our dog has a long line were he can run to.  Bandit found out how far he could go.  He would  step over that invisable line and just taunt the dog. Giving himself a bath. The dog would take off running and then Bandit would step back over the line.  Our poor dog would hang himself everytime.  We had to put him down 2 years ago.  We miss him so much.

Take care all.

What a cute name for your kitty! I love it. Does he wait behind the curtain for a "victim" to sit down? That is hilarious.

Hi there,
My toilet sits next to the tub and my kitty, Atticus Kitty Catticus, has developed a game in which he attacks anyone sitting on the toilet thru the shower curtains.  The first time he did this, he (excuse the pun) "scared the ****" out of me!!  ^_^

Our youngest, Breeze (some 4-5 months now) is a lot of help when I chat with you guys.  She knows that little fly or tick or whatever it is that keeps flitting around the computer screen must be annoying me, and shedget ri does her very best to catch it and get rid of it, once and for all.  It isn't fair that it always seems to come back next time.

Last night she found a much bigger fly, almost a horsefly, in the lampshade of the little lamp I keep lit beside the bed in case I have to read in the night.  Climbing up the inside of the shade and gripping the top edge with a paw, she used the other to swat it to the table where I swatted it.  Turned out later, though, that it was less dead than advertised, and we jointly hunted--while I hunted her out of my lampshade!--until mom finally got smart and shut of the lamp.

(Picture at my profile of Breeze with her 2nd mama Nimbus (that's another story) the night she got hold of a balloon string and carried it all around the house--and no, it wasn't Xmas, it was June, but the cats are very lax about putting away their holiday decorations.)

It is always dangerous to name your cats after Pagan Gods. It invites trouble when they invoke their inner pagan warrior. :)

A kitten named Venus should be kept locked in away from other males, even if fixed. We had an elderly cat called The Godfather who while not a God, was an Italian Don. All other cats paid court to his wise benevolence. He was a great protector of kittens.

Whenever a stray kitten showed up in the area, we'd find this old fella sleeping outside with it, giving it his "Italian Protection". I was very sad when he went off to die. He was a noble beast, worthy of the title; "The Godfather".

i have one kitten. i've had little venus since she was 4 weeks old (she was out of on of our farm cats litters that wasn't doing so well so i took her to nurse her back to health and she just stayed...i got attached to the little bugger). well since we've had her, about 4-5 weeks now, she has been an evil toe/finger biter. anytime you move a foot or hand out of NOWHERE comes this striped mess of fur and claws. she could be in a completely different room and she'll come flying out and just latch herself onto you. it's hilarious watching her do it to other people or one of the dogs.

she also has this infatuation with our youngest dog lucky....he seems to have the same infatuation with her. she'll play with his paws and tail biting and attacking him. if he gets to upset instead of nipping at her he just falls over like "omg i'm dead" and lays there...like he's dead. then after 5-6 minutes he sits up licks her and falls right back over while this little striped terror just keeps on pouncing on his poor feet and ears/tail, usually whichever she's closest to.

one more of my little venus. with her being so young i've had to nurse her. well now she's just drinking her formula from her food dish. and i give her formula every 4 hours and she KNOWS when it's milk time! i'll be standing at the sink getting it ready she'll climb up my pants leg crying like i'm starving her to death (she always has dry food and a dish of water now to) and as soon as i start to shake the milk container she takes off through the kitchen, across the dining room and down the hallway...skids into the wall and runs into my door to prop it open so she can get in....jumps halfway up my blankets on my bed and does this weird leap to her food dish....and sits there staring at me till i poor her milk. she is just the oddest little thing.

That is a very cheap way to entertain a cat, much better than spending $50 bucks on toys they never use (except for the box they came in, of course!) :)

My cats are useless, they don't do ANYTHING productive. If I could teach one to fetch, I could get it to grab the remote for me... make coffee...cook dinner...hmmm...

My cat, Abby, loves paper. Well, they all do really. But if I crumple up a piece of paper and throw it Abby will run after it, pick it up with her mouth, and bring it right back to me and drop it right infront of me and want me to throw it again. I have never ever seen or even heard of a cat playing fetch.----I love her, and the other 6 cats I have.

God, I've just had the kind of day that would make Saint Francis of Assisi kick kittens.

I've spent 6 hours troubleshooting my system just to be told by my provider that the problem, was, in fact, their fault (despite insisting everything was fine earlier).

Well, anyway, I've been tempted to suggest a cat weighing contest, although I see we've got a Maine Coon in the house, and that tilts the scale heavily (pun...pun...pun...) in his favor.
Ah well. We'll just have to break out the cheese and pastries to pack some carb's on our kitties to be sure we've got  chance at winning. :)

Yeah, who really owns who? Lol.

22lbs, wow! That's a big boy! Is he a main coon? I know they get pretty big. I heard they have quite the personality too!
They keep trying to make me feel guilty at the vets saying my cat is obese. She's between 10 and 11 pounds. What can I say? She lays around all the time! She's a lazy bones! :) I tried all the diet cat food, even the pricy stuff and really didn't see a difference. So I'm not going to worry about it. She's my sweetie. She's real affectionate too. She'll crawl right up on your lap and snuggle her head against you chest. Awww.
And then we have the brat cat. We got her as a kitten last Summer. She's something else! She can be affectionate SOMETIMES but is pretty independent. Always looking for trouble! She knocks everything of my counters and tables! Like right now, I thought I hid the donut box way up on the refrigerator with something laid on top of it to keep her out. Where do you think she is right now? On top of the refrigerator trying to get into the box. Grrr. She really does test my patience!

Wow! 22lbs! My little girlie weighs in at a whopping 5lbs. (if that). She is just so petite. Sometimes I wonder if something is wrong, but it seems she is just very active (and finicky:)

George sounds soo cute and certainly knows what he wants. And isn't it funny how we do what they want?!

I have a story to tell about my 22 lb cat named George.  I took benadryl one night to counteract a food allergy [i didn't realize i had] and since i worked 3rd shift, i came home in the middle of the night.  i took a couple more because the 2 i took weren't working fast enough.  Of course, while i was reclining on the sofa recliner i fell asleep and dreamt that i was swimming and dove under the water and was amazed by all the sea life.  when i swam back to the surface for air, it kept getting further and further away and i couldn't breathe!  I gasped and woke up to find my beloved 22 lb hairy son sleeping on my chest!!!  NO WONDER i couldn't breathe!

Since then, he has developed the habit of meowing at the top of his lungs to be carried into the bedroom, and laid down on the foot of our bed with the ceiling fan on and "Moodscapes" music playing on the tv.  SHEESH!  He actually throws tantrums and acts like a very spoiled child if he's not taken to bed for a nap around 11 am LOL

His sister is very much disdainful of him [as most sisters are]

My maine coon luffy likes to get right up in my face at night and sleep there. To make sure the husband dosnt kiss me or anything. Its cute cause he's got a determined look  like "My momma". He also walks around the house searching for me when i'm not home and the hubby is. He just walks to each room and crys loudly. He also loves chasing the wii mouse across the screen. I call him my Wii Cat.

My girl penny, when i squeal loudly or cry from getting hurt or loose at a game and whine she'll come to see if i'm ok and offer me a soft sweet mew. She's a very caring girl, she also likes to groom the little one, shanks.

Shanks is a funny one. Ever since we got him we've had a micro plush blanket. 3 to be correct. Ones lime green, ones pink, and ones black. OF course out of them all he chose the pink one. It sits on a pillow behind my own and he kneeds and ***** on it all night while we pet him to sleep, and if you dont go to bed when he's ready he'll cry and cry and cry running to the room and getting on his blankie. Or when we get up early to go to work he'll follow crying then when you make your way near the room he'll run in and get on the bed, trying to get you to go to sleep.

Luffy also loooooooooves to be in the bathroom when the showers on, he peeks his head around the curtain and watches the water. Or sits on your towels on the toilet ><; He also loves bathtime. He just sits there like a dog lol.

Thats all my babies pretty much do besides the cuddling which i love all three of them in my lap snugging <3

Re: the water thing...what a little stinker! Our cat refuses to drink from her water bowl unless she absolutely has to. She much prefers to hop on the bathroom sink and meow for us to turn on the water. But she won't drink it from the tap...we have to plug up the sink and fill it a bit, then she will carefully place her front paws on either side of the sink so as not to fall in and then get a drink. Sometimes if I don't fill it high enough she has to reach waaay down and almost falls in. This, she does not appreciate and will look at me a few times as if to say "what? that's all you're going to give me?".

I am cracking up here! That is just too cute. Unfortunately, my hubby is not too fond of cats ( my son and I had to beg and plead for the one we have). Otherwise, I'd have more. Anyway, I've posted a pic on my profile of our cat watching tv (actually it's an online video game my husband plays..a motocross racing game). This was taken a year or so ago and she loved to watch the motorcycles go around the track. She'd try and catch them as they'd go by!

heh heh heh...Ed-a-puss? you're killing me here!

April, get your cat one of those hamster drinking bottles. You'll never have another water mess...although your cat will never forgive you the indignity! :)

heh heh...okay, I have to ask; my favorite think is when cats become "stuck". I've left plastic bags out deliberately because I find NOTHING more hysterical than when they try to walk through the plastic handles, get caught, and then go galumphing around the room in a near panic trying to get free.

I'm sorry, I know it's terrible, but I just can't help it! :)

Maybe I should have titled this funny, crazy and ANNOYING things your cat does. Grr. Our latest edition is really testing my patience. It's bad enough you can't keep an open glass anywhere or she will knock it over, now she's knocking over her water dish. And I even bought the kind with the non-skid rubber on the bottom! I sat there and watched her yesterday morning, bat at her water dish a little and then walk around it and with her back leg gave it a kick! And then just nonchalantly walk away. She did it again this morning! Little booger.

ROFL!! Oh my gosh...that was the best story. I had to read it to my son. I was sitting here at the computer laughing and he's like "what? is it another funny cat story?" Too cute.

It does remind me, though about when Freckles was a kitten and we were trying everything we could to make her a happy indoor cat. We purchased that video called Cat Sitter which was just endless loops of birds, squirrels, mice, etc. doing their thing. We would put it on to entertain her (esp. while we were gone). I think it backfired because it only made her MORE of a little huntress. Any bug that happened to get inside was toast (a good thing) but after a few times of watching that...she would spy a bird in the yard and completely forget that there was a window between her and the bird. I don't know how she didn't knock herself unconscious on more than one occasion. We finally decided to let her "try" a romp in the backyard (carefully supervised of course) when she was 7 months old. I read up for weeks about how you are supposed to introduce them to the outdoors, etc. A few minutes at a time, on an empty stomach so they don't stray too far, etc. Only in the fenced backyard because they will be timid and shy having never felt grass beneath their precious soft paws. Yeah, right. I opened the door and set her down and within five minutes my tiny little 7 month old kitten was ON THE NEIGHBOOR'S ROOF! She shot up the big oak tree and onto the roof so fast it made my head spin. At first I thought she was all feaked out and looking for a place to hide but no...she was just having a great time exploring. When I finally did get her down and brought her in all she did was sit at that door and howl to go back out. I thought "great, now what have I done?".
She has now caught everything from birds to rabbits to snakes (yuck) to mice and even a frog or two. She may be small but she certainly is mighty.
