Mole like growth on my cat's mouth

My cat has developed a spot on his mouth which grew quickly from very small to the size of a small mole.  Doctor gave him a shot a week ago to see if it went away (it didn't) and after another week she wants to have it biopsied for cancer (50% chance it is cancer).  This will cost us close to a thousand dollars and if it is cancer, much more.  We want to try other meds or treatments first.  Any suggestions?

If it is cancer, there are no other treatments or meds that will make it go away.  Did she check to see if it is a eosinophilic granuloma?  That's what they look like.

No, she hasn't yet but I will check it out.  Thank you so much.
